Hi- does anyone know if I'm doing something wrong? My lotus hasn't bloomed this year. It's in about 6" of water and has lots of leaves. I fertilize it regularly. Do lotuses bloom repeatedly? Any advice on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

OH, I wish I could help you! I have givne up on lotuses. I think they need a lot of sunshine or something. Cuz I use to try each year and gave up.

But they actually grow naturally somewhere southwest from the Boise area near a lake of some sorts. Just heard from other pondkkeepers.

We do have geothermal springs around here, so I don't know if that is the secret or what.
Do you have a watergarden club in your area?

Also, pond books are available that can help also. Barnes and Nobles carries quite a few.

I use to get a subscription from Watergardening Magazine that covers stuff like that. Or sneak into Petsmart and you might find a magazine in there on ponds. (As well as Barnes and Nobles). If I lived closer to the store and not have to fight everybody going to the mall nearby I would be there a lot more and probably spending a lot more money! LOL

As it is I do have a collection of pond books and magazines, but now my shelving is collecting clematis books. Heehee.

Search for Watergardening Magazine and it should bring up their website. I know there is a secret to raising these lotuses, but I don't have the patience for them right now.

But this won't help you much, but Boise is having their annual pond tour this coming Sunday on July 23rd. Tickets are at Zamzows.

Usually somewhere there has a lotus that is just perfect.

If I get the time I'll look into my pond books and read up on lotuses and get back to you.

I read one of my pond books and can tell you what is on the page on lotus. But Sunny probably got something for you on google.

I remember doing all this with no internet! LOL
What a difference!

Sunnyday, that is a good website! Perfect! Maybe I'll try lotuses next season.
