This is my second year with my gunnera plant. Last year I put my gunnera to sleep with it's leaves over the top and some ceder branches over that then some wood shavings. It made it thru the winter just fine. Now my question for this year is, my gunnera has a big bloom, I guess that is what you call it. Do I cut that off? It will be kind of hard to cover it with that very stiff bloom sticking up. Our temps can dip down into the teens and even colder once in a while.

That is the flower head
I just cover them as best I can with the large leaves ... some die some survive. It does no harm either way
I cut off the leaves from the stems, spear some of the leaves on short stems and throw the larger heavy stems over the top of the lot
In the springtime when the lot is removed the plants heads for the skies with great gusto
This year my plant has once again outdone itself
I really MUST remove a lot of root next year .....
