This week I installed interior shade cloth in my greenhouse - 60% - to cut the heat build up and not cook the begonias and ferns. It doesn't extend to the end sections with the roof vents so the automatic vent openers are not affected. The two ends and one side are not shaded so there are areas for plants that like stronger light. So much of what I grow likes it a bit shady, though. So far our temperatures have reached only to the low to mid 80's and it seems to be helping with heat build up. Take a look. The outside stripes are silver reflective – green on the inside. I’ve done lots of repotting and cleaning up, too.

Well, its mid summer and the shade cloth has been fantastic. The begonias were fried from the sun and heat last year. The temperatures have still gotten into the 90's F on really hot days but its been tolerable. Look at the begonias, etc.

Everything looks beautiful, Cathy! I missed this when you first posted but I think the shade cloth has a wonderful decorative quality also.

Thanks guys. Hey Lynn. Do you mean the leaves almost in the center near the top? That's a begonia - a rex hybrid of some kind. Many of the plants in the picture are begonias. I'm a bit of a collector. I'd have to look at the tag to see which one - and it may not have one. Several are untagged varieties. The greenhouse was built from a kit ordered on the Internet. It's a Rion - 8 1/2' x 12' foot. We built the base from 6" x 6" timbers since it’s on a fairly significant slope. The base is really important. I built the benches from 2 x 4's with wood lath (its like snow fence but made for bench tops). The tops are level but the floor is not. I do have four automatic vent openers and natural gas heat to help with temperature control.

My gosh, what a beautiful greenhouse. I am awestruck! I can only dream of a greenhouse as nice. I may get a small 6X6 and have about 3 plants because my thumb is only a slight shade of green. You've done a wonderful job. The shades on the green house make a wonderful touch too. How jealous am I!?

The greenhouse itself is nice but I was blown away by the beautiful plants inside! I swear one day I'll have one that bursts with life as that one does! Its a plant-splosion in there!
