Today, I ordered a Rion GH30 Hobby Series Greenhouse. With a 4' extension, it will measure 6' 5" W x 12' 6" L x 6' 6" H behind my garage and will have 2 roof vents with automatic openers as well as one louvre window in the rear: http://www.riongreenhousekit.com/rionhobby.htm One of its long walls will be nearly up against the garage, but since the Sun comes up in the opposite direction, the number of hours of direct exposure should be adequate to its purpose. I should have it in about a week and a half and, while i am not really looking forward to establishing its base or assembling it, I am thrilled. I have wanted my own greenhouse for two decades. Like Catherine (I love yours, by the way), I will take pictures of its preparation, construction and finishing touches. Charles

You will be pleased with your choice. They are not difficult to assemble - we did it. LOL. Mine has been great. It's over three years and not a single problem. The automatic openers are wonderful. Good luck and enjoy.

Hi Catherine, Thank you for the info. Do you regard the shade nets as essential? I was also wondering what brand of heater you are using. Thanks again, Charles

The shade cloth has made a huge difference. Summers are HOT and long here. Temperatures inside the greenhouse easily reached over 100 during the summer months with doors and vents wide open. With the shade cloth, the temperature stays close to the outside temperature - hot but tolerable. We got an unvented natural gas heater from Lowes. It has worked without a hitch for three winters. I'm sure you are looking at longer and colder winters than we get. We barely got below freezing this year. Yesterday (early April) it was 82 here.

Since it often reaches 90 or above here in WI during June, July and August, sometimes even September, I will plan on buying a shade cloth. An unvented natural gas heater sounds great. Unfortunately, because of where the GH will be located, I will have to use an electrical heater. It would be nice to grow things year round, but I am not sure that is possible during the fairly extreme winters here. Thanks again for the information, Catherine

May I ask where you bought your shade cloth, Catherine? I know that Rion sells a shade cover for outside, but I like the look of your shade cloth system and would like to mimic it.

Thanks Monique. I hope to take some nice pictures. Tomas, given the reviews of this brand (the most popular in the U.S.), its price and the fact that it is maintenance free, I think you too should take the plunge, especially given your extraordinary flowers! It comes in green and white and I think clear in Europe. Mine will be green.

Thank you Charles. Glad you like the web-site and the photos! Tomas! I had bought the greenhouse earlier but the storm 'Gudrun' January 2005 made be doubtful......

Charles, I got the shade cloth from Charley's Greenhouse Supply. They have quite a large selection for both inside (like mine) or outside. They have a website: Charley's Greenhouse Supply
