Hey all! This is my first post ever. I just got my first greenhouse, just a little indoor one, but I have to start somewhere right! So far I have always gotten my plants from a nursery. any tips?

Welcome Danielle!

The only suggestion I have is one you're probably already aware of. Don't let the greenhouse get too hot. Insufficient ventilation causes the most problems I've seen in greenhouses.

We'll look forward to seeing the progress in your new indoor garden!

Thanks Valia. What is the ideal temp for a little greenhouse? (About 5 feet tall, 2 1/2 feet wide 1 1/2 feet deep.) My seedlings are looking a little spindly.

The ideal temperature depends on what you're trying to grow. There are cool greenhouses for plants like cyclamen and winter lettuce, and real "hothouses" for lovers of tropical plants and things like melons or even tomatoes.

If your plants are spindly, it may be that your greenhouse is too warm. Usually spindliness is caused by insufficient lighting, but if the lighting is adequate, the plant may be growing faster than desired because of the warm surroundings or excessive fertilization, which would make it spindly.

Another note: many plants like more moisture than you'd normally find in a home. Dishes of gravel with water in them are one way to add moisture.

You might try introducing yourself in the Social Gallery and asking your question there. The greenhouse forum has not been very active lately, and there may not be very many gardenbuddies keeping up with it. I hope you'll lure them there with your question! And post pictures of your progress to keep them coming back. Many gardenbuddies do have greenhouses, but they tend to post in the forums devoted to their favorite plants instead of the greenhouse forum.

Good luck with your new project!

Anne
