Well, they just had to go! To the greenhouse that is! I was doing double shifts under the lights to keep them happy. They were taking over my entire house! But now they are snug in their new home, and both plants and gardener are now very happy! You can see their transition here. http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=1862929&uid=107739&members=1 as well as our snowy March. Which is ALL OVER NOW! (we hope!) Taryn

Hey guys (gals) thanks! I thought everyone must be busy IN their greenhouses, this forum has been so quiet. I am having a blast in the greenhouse, though it is already nearly full. It's like what they say about building a pond, make it bigger than you think you want it, lol! Monique the tufa pocket rock was made with bowl for a mold, split then taped together with duct tape (so I could remove it after). I used cardboard egg carton cups filled with gravel and taped into place with the duct tape for the 'pockets'. Then drilled them a little deeper afterwards. Hens and chicks have survived two winters in there, even this very cold one. Deb, you have a blue cape cod too don't you? Is it an old house? Ours is circa 1860, has a number of 'quirks', lol, but we love it. Hope you come visit when you go to 'Bug's farm... Taryn

We sure will visit Taryn. I want to ask GB when a good time is to come. Are you going away at all this summer do you know? Our blue cape cod was built 1989. I like the colour of yours better I think...we restained ours but kept it close to the original colour. Next time we will go darker. Today has been one of those days...I cracked my head on a shelf in the garage so I came inside for a while...goosegg! Then I went back out but someone nearby has decided to burn stuff and it is really foul out there. I don';t mind brush fire...we have a firepit....but you cant even breathe out there. Such a shame for a gorgeous day...I am itching to be out there with the kids. And we are having people over around 3 so I hope it clears up. I did manage to do a little project out there of hiding an unsightly downspout that went across a garden...it used some small rocks and dirt and covered it and stuck some hens and chicks in it and a couple of alpine plants.

Oh no Deb! Geez, and Saucy fell off a ladder today too. Must be something in the air (more than the smoke). I was in the garden until 8:30pm when it got dark! Got lots done, though of course lots more to do lol! We are going away for much of July if the bank account allows. We are planning on camping our way to the east coast, where DH's parents live in NS. See when 'Bug is available and we'll figure it out. Hope you feel better soon! Taryn

I was outside last night too moving plants around etc. It was the perfect evening wasn't it. Your trip sounds great! NScotia is lovely. The kids will be at a good age for such a trip. Those foxglove seedlings are getting bigger every day! You are right, it is addictive. Today I started adding some rotting leaves from the bottom of the leaf pile to the garden under the thin layer of shredded cedar mulch. I did that last summer and it was a hot job so I thought I would tackle it now. Plus they are building a house next door ( grumble grumble...it's a house on a man made mountain, trees have been cut down etc) and my big leaf pile could be landscaped over...the property line is fuzzy and we may have been borrowing the spot where the pile is on so I figured I had better use it now. I guess the good news is there is more potential garden since the cut down trees have let in more light to this before not used south exposure part of our yard.We are actually thinking greenhouse or sunroom one day in the future... I am rambling on and on aren't I. Do you mulch Taryn? I think it really helped last year...added lots to the soil and kept weeding and watering down.

Mulch, yes, yes, yes! Mulch and soaker hoses are the only way I can keep up with weeding/watering these gardens. Especially with the drought we've have the past two years. I raked all the leaves I'd piled on the beds off last week, spread them out to dry, got DH to mow them up with the lawnmower, then back they are going to go! Actually they are going to be part of several new lasagna beds I'm doing. Our city gives away free compost spring and fall, so I mix that half and half with peat moss and use that as my mulch. They give away woodchip mulch too, but it's pretty coarse, not for around small seedlings... Hey, hey, more potential garden is always good! You'll get your greenhouse/sunroom when the time is right. Mine was a long time coming, but a chance meeting with my 'glass benefactors' was very serendepitous (sp?) and it was definitely worth the wait!
