i won't venture to try and name your iris, there are over 60,000 registered names, so its not easy putting a name to a plant when so many can look the same, but have different bloom times and heights etc, but you have a lovely colorful selection!

Is there a special iris name for the stippling effect--on #2,4 & 5?
My fav is #1.

BTW, nice chatting with you Mark -- on Chat a week ago.

Denise, so very nice of you to say, thank you. I looked again this weekend, but no one was there.
I believe that the effect of the colouring is known as Plicata. I believe that this is something to do with the breeding, Perhaps there is a Iris Plicata species?

Hopefully here are some more.
I think that 2, 4 and 5 are either or both of Spatzel or spreckels, does anyone agree that may be possible? Plant Forum

you have a lovely collection. yes the pattern is called plicata. i hate to give names to iris because often people begin selling or trading them and people then think they are the true names, when the only way to really know is to buy that name and grow side by side for exact same bloom times, heights etc., but with that said, the 3rd one looks very much like gay parasol and the last one juan valdez. at least its a starting point for you to try and learn the true names...

Thanks Jain. These plants were all named varieties when purchased. Unfortunately, over the last2 or 3 years, the labels have been lost or have faded into the mist, as it were. I can recognise some of the names we bought, and that is where I get my few names from. Gay Parasol does sound very familiar, however Juan Valdez is not in the memory banks at all. I think we got this plant as a mistake by the grower, with it being originally labelled as Joyce Terry. After consulting the growers list ( since lost) I think I came up with cafe mocha or something like that.

As a matter of interest, this is their first good flowering after having been sprayed with roundup, it has only taken about 2-3 years for their recovery.

most growers plant alphabetically, if the grower made a mistake with joyce terry, juan is very close in spelling and perhaps is it. juan valdez is a fav of mine, the colors are wonderful, but there are many that are similar, but then again, both being J's makes me think i am target still.
you must be thrilled after round up you are now enjoying them!

I have news, The very first photo is one of Almaden. I happened to find the label while I was digging up the plant to remove an infestation of creeping ranunculus.
Hopefully I have done this at the right time- as a Christmas present to the plant.
