Last year I planted my first ever TBI bed. They did fine through the Winter, I dug some up and just had them bare, sitting in a box waiting to plant, then, freaked with this awful Spring weather, brought them in the house and left them in the basement, forgot about them, ( not like me at all) for a good 2 weeks, and now, the rhizomes seem a tad soft. I put them back outside today and tossed some water on them. Hope to get them planted with in the next week or so, wonder if they will make it?

i don't know your zone at all, but i do know they need to be firm when planted. if you can't squeeze them to a pulp in your fist, then i would go ahead and plant them...

I agree with Blue_moon but what have you got to loose? Plant them and keep those toes crossed. Hanging my head here, we have had some in pots for a few years after tearing them out of the iris bed and just tossed the whole bunch out. We put some compost on them and now we just wait.

Hi! Thanks for the posting. Much appreciated. They are still firm, just shabby looking. Guess time will tell then . What do you like to feed them?

Irises are tough -- very tough. When I moved in 04, I dug irises in the winter and kept them layered in peat in a big pot on the driveway while I lived in an apartment for five months. It was June when I finally had a garden again. They were in sad shape. They did not bloom the first year (it was almost summer by the time they were in the ground again) but half of them did bloom the following spring and most of them the next. Feeding... a little bone meal once a year is all I do.
