I have some small irises that were not growing as well as others in the gardens. I dug them up, thinking maybe they weren't happy where they were. I noticed there were holes, tiny pin sized holes, in the root (tuber, rizome? I'm not sure the proper term.) I rinsed them off and planted them in a planter box with new soil. Do you think this will save them, or are they a lost cause? I was afraid to put them in another bed because I didn't know if it's a disease or what, and I didn't want to transfer it to other irises I have that are doing well. The leaves are not looking very healthy either. Any advice or ideas? ETA a pic:

The pin holes are whats left when an old root dies so not to worry but I dont think they will do to well in the planters. They are small, they look like my seedlings. Are they gladiolus in the next planter up on the left?

Well, I have Iris in the other beds, so it's not a total loss. I suspected these weren't going to make it though, they just kep looking worse rather than better. I think those are Glads, another find left by the previous owners. I've been wondering if I should put them in a bed or if they'll do alright in the box, but I haven't had time to look them up or ask anyone here yet. Something new turns up around here every week lol.

The glads are O.K. where they are but you wont get blooms for 2 to 4 years. As for your iris mound the soil up a few inches and plant them there for two reasons it prevents wet feet and they will not get lost in the garden.

We treat ours with commet bath clearer each year to rid them of the bugs and insects that eat the tubbers. We do this in the fall and early spring if we see a problem. Just dust the top of the soil and water in.

Well, that's something I'd never have thought of lol. Thanks for the tip Karma! Thank you too Otnorot, I will try that. I'd hate to lose them, so I'll try anything to see if I can save them =) I think Irises are just so pretty! I'll definately be adding more =)
