I don't turn the compost as often as I should. I went to turn the leaves, etc in my composter this weekend (the first time since last year) and bees smarted flying out of it. Guess I won't be using much of it this summer. Will have to wait til winter and see if I can empty it then when they are asleep/frozen. Any other suggestions.

Isn't there a product you can add to make the compost hotter?

Yes - compost enhancer. We have to add it every spring to get everything going again as it freezes solid during our winters.

Hi Joan, Did you have any luck with the bees? I did not get to my compost bins much either and got stung when I started to turn the material in the bin. I was wondering if you used the product to make the compost hotter? Has anyone used a flying insect spray or garden fogger to get them out and then removed the hive? I think my compost is almost ready in this one bin and now I can not use it! Terry

I would probably sprinkle some Sevin dust on it & wait a few days. Good luck with it, and do let us know what happens...
