In the host name/address box type in gardenbuddies.com In the host type box select automatic detect In the username box type in your gardenbuddies username in small letters. In the password box type in your password that was supplied to you when your web space was created in small letters. Place a check mark in the save password box. Click OK When connecting to your space please make sure you have Passive Mode uncheck or this will slow the FTP process to a crawl. If thing went right you should see two window, a left and a right. The left window (local System) is your computer and its files. The right side (Remote Site) is your web space. You can always see the folders where these windows are pointed to by looking in the top box above each window. Your Remote Site window (web space) will alway have a default of /usr/local/apache/htdocs/members/your_username/ this is your space on the internet.

Transferring Your Album To Your Web Space There are two modes to make your transfer the first mode is: Binary This mode is used to transfer image files only. Place a check box in the radio box if you are uploading image files. ASCII This mode is used to transfer .txt, .htm, .html and other files and maintains the carriage return lines in your files. If you upload a image file in this mode the uploaded file will be corrupted and will not work. Now in the left window (local system) navigate to your folder that contains you emage album folders and files that you created in the previous tutorial. You can navigate by double clicking on a drive letter and/or clicking the green up arrow in the upper left corner. This is very important. If you navigated to the correct directory then you should see the following: A yellow folder named: images A yellow folder named: thumbs and a file called index00.htm or if you created a large album you will see more htm files.
If you do not see these files please return to the emage tutorial and read how to find these files. After you found these folders and files take a peek inside of them to make sure they contain your full images and thumbnails. You can do this by clicking on them. Now in the remote site window (right side) create an folder called albums in small letters. You do this by clicking on the MkDir button on the right. Once the new album folder appears on the right double click it and it will open. You can verify that you are inside the folder by looking at the top right box. See how it shows that I am now in the album folder.
We are ready to start are uploading. Make sure your binary radio box is check. On the left side (local system) left click once the image file then right click on the highlighted file and left click transfer folder. Follow this same step for the thumbnail folder. Now just double click the index00.htm file and it will also be transferred. Make sure you do this in ASCII mode. Your folders and files should now have been transferred to the right side (web space) and in the same file order as they appeared on your local drive (left window)

Understanding How The URL Is Created To View Your Album The internet is just one big file structure the same way your hard drive structures it's files. So paying attention to whether a file or a folder name has large or small lettering in it is crucial. A folder uploaded to your web space as http://www.gardenbuddies.com/forum/members/ej/Album/index00.htm (large A in album) can not be found by typing in http://www.gardenbuddies.com/forum/members/ej/album/index00.htm (small A in album). It would be wise to get in the habit of naming everything in small lettering. This way you will not have to keep looking back to see if that folder had large or small lettering. One common thing you will have in your url ALWAYS is the first few folders in the file structure. Yours will always be http://www.gardenbuddies.com/forum/members/your_username/ This is the address to your web space. What you place in your web space will determine what goes after it. If you try to access just http://www.gardenbuddies.com/forum/members/your_username/ you will see it is forbidden. This will protect people from viewing files you want private. Now knowing what we do now, we can figure out what the url for our album would be. We know we are trying to access a file called index00.htm and that we placed that file in our web space in a folder called album. We know we can now find our album at http://www.gardenbuddies.com/forum/members/your_username/album/index00.htm

Rules of FTP 1. If you upload a file or a folder with the same name to the same folder then the older folder will be over written and the data loss. If you want to create multiple albums then create multiple directories such as album1, album2 and so forth. 2. You can not delete a folder that has files inside of it. You must first go into the folder and delete the files and then when emptied go back and delete the folder. 3. The larger the file is the more time it will take to load when viewing with your Browser. File size is located across from the file name. 4. If you upload files and folders to your web space that contain spaces in their name then note some browsers are not capable of reading them.
