I live in Va and want to grow a Pomegranate Tree in container. I saw it once on HGTV or DIY. I was also thinking of growing Apples and Plums. Anyone ever done this? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I grow citrus plants and figs in containers and bring them in for the winter, I do have an unheated sunroom/greenhouse to overwinter them in though. I'm pretty sure you can grow the apples and plums in your area aslong as you store the plants in an unheated garage or insulate the pots (after a hard freeze) from excessive freezing and thawing (a real killer), the pom will need to be brought inside for the winter. Last spring I bought a sweet cherry tree Prunus avium 'Compacstella' and planted it in a 40cm diameter container. I overwintered it outside without any problem. You can grow all dwarf fruits trees in container. Han

I think there are many dwarf varieties of fruit trees including the pomegranate (which I am trying to germinate).....but as long as you know how to root prune, I think you can grow almost any fruit tree in a container. Then there's the Randia.......lots of fruit from a 10inch pot!!! Tastes like blackberry jam. many cherry/plum trees are used as bonsai (no fruit though).

My cherry tree isn't straight. (see photo) I would like to pull it out and replant again. When is the best time to do it?

When it's dormant...winter or before it gets leaves or after they've fallen.

I have a roof garden with everything in containers. Fig, cherry, mulberry, blueberry, strawberry, juneberry, raspberry all have wintered outdoors for years. I give them worm compost and lots of love.

Ted, what is a juneberry? Your rooftop sounds great. What size container(s) do you use for the raspberries?
