Hello; I am relatively new here, I have mainly been posting in the Birds forum. However, I thought I stretch my "feelers" a little bit further afield and try and partake in other forums as well. I have also been posting in the "Daylily" forum. From my 4 Orchids I had this one is still alive, the others unfortunately died. I know I over watered them, did the watering & fertilizing twice a month but found that once a month is enough. I also learned that the white Orchids and the various pink ones are more difficult to raise then the yellow one. This one I have 2 years now and it has bloomed twice after the original blooms.

Welcome to the orchid forum !!! The orchid you have is beautiful !! I just bought one today that looks almost exactly the same to add to my collection. Do you have it reblooming from the same spike or is it a brand new one ? Look new, but im just curious :]

One more blossom has opened on my Orchid since. Thank you Frank. I received this Orchid some 2 1/2 years ago as a gift and this is the second time it has been blooming, apart from it's original blossoms when I received it. The First re-blooming took place on the old spike but the blossoms were small. This now is a brand new spike and the blossoms are much nicer, better then ever before. What I learned about Orchids is to not over water them. I now do it onces a month, first drench it with tepid water and the fertilize after with 1/2 cup of fertilizer liquid mix. I catch the liquid in both cases and put it through the pot about 3-4 times. The Orchid can not stand in water or have water in the saucer. My fertelizing regimen is: 25-10-10 from April - August 15-30-15 from September - March. Watch for those tiny white fluffs (lice), I treat those with rubbing alcohol.

Your Welcome :] The longest orchid, out of my total of 22 ive kept would be about 1- 1/2 years. (Its A Vandas Orchid) It hasnt rebloomed for me yet, but i hope it does soon. You got all your fertilizers techiniques right on, as mine are exactly the same. These are the orchids i have : 1- Vanda's Orchid 3- Lady Slippers 9- Phaleopensis 5- Cattaleya 4- Cymbidiums Most of them are fairly new, because my shoprite end up overwatering them and they begin to rot. Then they reduce the to about $.50 - $2.00. So i buy them and repot and give a ton of "TLC" until they recover. Currently i have 17 blooming. They are a beautiful sight and are all living under grow-lights. If i had a working camera i would post pics but i dont ...

This yellow Orchid I send is , I think, a Phaleopsis? Is that right? You have quiet the collection and I would love to see them. Yes, they don't like to be over watered at all. I have pictures somewhere of the Orchids that died on me, if I find them I will send them. I am not an expert on Orchids at all, just started it one year. But I won't buy any more because I just don't have the room to put them. I keep mine in the south window sill. I got Cactus and African Violets there and there is just no room for more. Prise wise, you can buy them here in box stores for as low as $ 10 I saw them. But of course they go higher , most of them are $ 19.95.

Yes your orchid is phaleopsis. It is one of the easier to care for, and is still beautiful. Orchids most definately dont like a lot of water, i mist mine every 2nd day, and give them a good soak once a month. The cheapest ive ever seen an orchid would of been at walmart for $7.88 regular price, but they are always shriveled to crap and are pretty much dead. But $20 is a reasonable price for an orchid, as some can go as high as $150 dollars. (well at least that is the most expensive ive seen) If you dont mind me asking how much did you spend for yours ??? I just got my yellow one for 29$ at a nursery that specializes with orchids, mine has 3 spikes on it :]

Isn't it always the case though, the most inexpensive flowers are the toughest. I don't know exactly the price of mine since it was a B.D. gift from my hubby to me 2 1/2 years ago. But at that time the Orchid was new in our area, for sale that is. So there were no cheap ones then and I am pretty sure mine was around $ 29. They are now $ 10 in all colors in our box stores like Home Depot and Rona. Walmart has good ones when you can catch them after they just arrived in the store, after that forget it. They do absolutely NOT water their plants. I have complained several times to them and the personal people just look at you as though they havn/t got a clue what you are talking about. "Water???" To a flower???? "whoever heard of that !" Dogh..... Makes me mad how little the care.

But you said that your walmarts never give them water ??? the ones down here are overwater and the peat moss and even the plant itself are molding!! Sometimes i laugh at how stupid they are :]
