These images were taken at a local tropical plant leasing & purchase firm. They house themselves in an ancient greenhouse.... that was home for the nursery that did the original landscaping at my home [in 1955.] That's probably more than you wanted to know, but I like the history.......... as well as the Orchids. I'm also working with altering the backgrounds of the images to enhance the flower, but but the learning curve seems to be steepening.... Alcra. 'Sunday Best Muffin':
Dendrobium 'Pegasus':
Paphiopedilum philippinense var. roebelenii [Lady's Slipper Orchid ]:
Parrotus shyus greenus:
Rosa 'White Meidiland':

The Lady's Slipper Orchid looks like a painting from one of those series of botanical studies. Beautiful.

Wrong John, I just told the DW. When did roebelinii get demoted to var. of philippinense? When I tried to grow it it was a species?

The greenhouse had it tagged thus, and I am not knowledgeable enough to have known what you know, much less the answer to your question.

Sorry if I appeared to be an egghead, John. It was just a general question for all buddies, and I did not, and do not intend to critisise you, nor in any way put you down an your knowledge of anything. Almost 20 years ago, when we grew orchids, things were much different than they now seem to be, with almost everyone being very concerned about 'accurate' labelling, and I guess that I can be an egghead about things technical at times. Loved the technical latinesque parrot. love the photos, have you already changed the background on these photos? It looks very good if you have, and if not, it still looks right to me.

Hello Mark.......... I love botanical names and botanical accuracy... So thanks for the heads up..... I'm researching even as we speak........ There are 2 or 4 mail order nurseries I have lost respect for.... because they have decided to market plants with cultivar names "exclusive" to them.... when, in reality, they are simply...... da da da da da........... Well, you know. As to the backgrounds... what you've seen is pretty much where I intended to go..... To be honest, I'm not sure what my ultimate goal is..... I know I haven't reached it.... because I haven't stopped working with these photos yet. The learning process is fascinating. What I wouldn't have given for this kind of equipment when I was younger............. I would have loved to have had it on a few special occasions.......... trips to San Francisco, Vancouver, Seattle, Tucson, King's Canyon, the Coronado Hotel & the botanical gardens in San Diego, my time in the Missouri Botanical Garden in Saint Louis, the Grand Canyon, the Olympic Peninsula, the Columbia River Gorge, Crater Lake, Lake Tahoe, Fayetteville, Vicksburg, the Arbuckle Mountains, Red Rock Canyon in northern Arizona, Mesa Verde, the ferries plying Puget Sound and the Juan de Fuca Straits..... Well, Good Lord, this list could go on awhile yet..... At the same time, I might not have appreciated it fully at an age like that. So.... don't hesitate to correct my names..... I enjoy that part of gardening too.

I just found this thread today. And I can assure you, I did laugh at the impressively scientific parrot ID. Also I liked the photo very much. Orchids are pretty amazing creatures, but from the title of the thread I was expecting pictures of your native orchids. I'm willing to wait till summer for them, though. OK?
