Our worker brought us some vines with a 'pretty yellow frower' for me. He didn't recognize it as Vanilla.
Anyway, first we 'secured' to a tree trunk but it was in the wrong place, as we were later told vanilla doesn't like wind.
On Wednesday, he brought 6 more large cuttings, which we secured in a covered 'vivero'. We noticed a few buds, so of course I got excited, and did some research on what to do next. Yesterday, Thursday, I told him in my 'not so perfect' Spanish, that we wanted to go and see where exactly it was growing, wild, on the farm. So, a couple of hours later, he brings 7 more large pieces, with even larger buds. So, this morning, we had our first bloom!
While I have never 'hand pollinated' an orchid, I don't think I did it correctly. But it was practice for tomorrow, as it looks like we will have lots more!
Any help appreciated!
