Albums will be going offline in order to conduct some apache connection tests. Don't worry nothing will be lost.

Okay here is one of the major problems. Everytime an image is shown outside of gardenbuddies this creates a connection. By this I mean if you post a photo from your album at gardenweb or any other website this will create a new connection to our server each time a viewer views that image. It is all these connections, millions of them, that are crashing the server. I can only find two solutions. One would be to do away with all albums or block hotlinking from this site. This means if you posted at gardenweb the viewer would get the red x. This is like some of the picture sites do like webshots. It's up to you so I'll do what ever the majority decides.

Ej, I know I am a major problem in that regard. I'll rename the albums right now to get rid of many of the connections. I'll get hot finding a new spot for the albums too. Will that help in the short term? My vote is do what is best/easiest for you and Gardenbuddies. Our (mine & Deb's) donations are for the site that we enjoy so much. The albums are gravy :)

Ej, I vote for eliminating hotlinking. The albums are real nice and I like them alot. Posting photos from them to Gardenbuddies is plenty for me. I have a little webspace offered by my ISP that I use for photos I want to post elsewhere. I do direct folks to the address for my albums here too though for them to have a look. Is directing folks to the albums a problem as well or just the hotlinking? Stan the Roseman

If we stop hotlinking you do not need to rename your album. Posting links do not add connections so thay are okay. Digger with your permission I can use your album as an example to block hot linking.

You got it Ej :) Glad I came back by. It is taking a longgg time. Didn't realize I had to rename all the subalbums.... haven't even started on the hybrid teas. Now I can go take the z out of the ones I renamed so they show at GB. Same as Stan, I was wondering if links to the site are a problem?

I have always used Photobucket, so it looks as though I won't be posting any pictures on Gardenbuddies.

If you use your photo as a screen saver or background for your computer is that hotlinking?

No terry that resides on your own computer. Dave here is what happens: http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/rosesgal/msg1209324929735.html?38 Carol you can continue to post photos stored on photobucket here at Gardenbuddies. This is not hotlinking from this site.

So, it's only if you post a photo from your Gardenbuddies album to another forum that creates the links that are bogging things down here. But links within Gardenbuddies are fine as well as links from Photobucket or any other photo storage site to Gardenbuddies. Did I get that right?

Ej, when you get time.... could you click on My Garden. All I get are red Xs at the site. No rush. The GW thread has a mini photo posted so it was disabled when I changed the name of that album. I understand that is what will happen to all the posts I linked photos to. Not a problem. Well, not as big a problem as they are causing you by a long shot. Edit: Seems to be working fine now. Thanks Ej

I found a way to do this in steps. For now I allowed gardenweb and desertratrose to link to you dave. Google images is blocked which is a big offender along with all image robots. I'll test it like this for a few days. This way we can add a site to the approval list if needed.

Hi Ej, HAPPY BIRTHDAY I also say drop the hotlinks if it causes server kills. FYI - On other web sites I have linked to photos that I have uploaded using the paperclip. I see those are now turned off, which is fine. I'm wondering about ones I might have linked to within other GB threads? Would those be X's too? By the way, another question. When one uploads a photo using the paperclip, where do those photos get stored? I don't see them ever get removed. I wonder if this is one reason for server space or performance being a problem? As I mentioned once before, you could not allow uploading photos to GB space and only allow linking from GB albums or outside photobuckets, etc. If it's a problem.

Albums are coming back on line slowly. Images hosted by your album outside of gardenbuddies will not show except for gardenweb and desertratrose. If anyone needs albums to be shown on another website just let me know.
They get stored on the server. This is only disk space which we have plenty. What does hit us is the process to search 250,000 pages everytime someone performs a search. If anyone has a album that is not working now correctly please post here. Albums will be un-hotlinked when I hear from you. This way I will not spend time fixing unused albums. Thanks.
