Oh. Sorry. I didn't mean it to. Since there have been problems with the site, I think Ej has probably had to take measures to keep it going. But he will have to tell us the details.

Now I can't wait to hear the explanation after reading Ingmarie's post. And no, Moira, I tried the 1|3 button right after I posted and it didn't work from the main forum page and worked on only some of the forum pages. I thought that was rather hilarious.

I can't really address your question MiMi, but I know in the past when I have posted an issue or question I often get a direct answer back from EJ by email rather than a followup post here. It's not like there is a staff out there waiting to answer our comments but based on Mara's comment it does sound like someone is investigating and working on things in the background..probably in between real life .

I was wondering if that might be the cause. I am as yet not a supporting member. I would like to be but I don't have a paypal account (whatever that is) Asked hubby last night how to go about getting one. Maybe that is why I cannot get on some of the things at the top. They may be changing it so only supporting members get full access to the board which would be a good idea and make more people support the site.

Moira, our membership link gives you a direct link to paypal. At the top of the paypal page is "sign up" which if you click on it brings you to this page on paypal https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_registration-run Once you have signed up, you can then follow the below instructions to route your membership payment to gb. "Or you can visit http://www.paypal.com to pay for your web space at Gardenbuddies.com, login to your PayPal account and select "Send Money." When prompted, specify "info@gardenbuddies.com" as the recipient, and you will be presented with Gardenbuddies.com information. Send the payment as you would any other payment." Hope that helps you and others with the question of how to pay for membership.

I was scared of PayPal at first, but it turned out to be absolultely easy here. I think it depends on how the banking systems work in each country, because PayPal somehow has to connect to a bank or credit card account to do the payment (here, anyway).

Terry this is where I get the problem. Seeing as I am not very computer savvy I have no idea how much space I want if any! I wish it was clearer what they wanted you to do. I have read the blurb on there several times before and still don't understand how much to pay. What would be a good donation without buying any space. Is the space you buy for the "My garden" thingy under your avatar or just pictures posted on the site in general? How do I know how much to buy? help!

I understand, I was confused too. So I decided to do a US$25.00 which gave me the photo album gallery. My thoughts are this, even if I did not get a photo album, but they do come in very handy for storing your photos, for all that gb gives us it is a drop in the bucket. Think of all the new plants you know about and all the friendships that we have as a result of it! Last time I wanted to donate money extra. So when I renewed my membership, I wrote a note to Ej that part of it was purely a donation not for extra album space. Does that help?

Thanks Terry. I will do that too or at least whatever it is near enough converted to pounds Sterling. Thats all I wanted was a figure. EJ if you are out there you might want to change the wording on the membership bit. Maybe add that a donation of X amount to help run the site rather than buying any space would be welcome also. Just a suggestion.

One morning I woke up thinking about GB. Nothing new, it happens all the time, but I was thinking about that "Do you know this" thread where everyone was talking about monetary support for GB. I know it's hard to have advertising with all of the ad-blocking software, but I'm sure there is a way to do it, and I was thinking that GB could display advertising for non-contributing members, then have one fee for people who want to contribute and get rid of the ads but not have any garden album space, and have a higher fee for people who want to contribute and get rid of the advertising AND have a garden album on GB. That way no one runs away (hopefully). I'd hate to miss out on anyone's expertise or sheer presence just because they didn't want to contribute money or couldn't contribute money. I'd also hate to see GB shut down just because it was too expensive to maintain it the way it is done now.

If whoever is in charge is awake, I'm sure it'll show up any moment. I was surprised to see mine appear so quickly; I almost missed it, just saw a red blur and thought, "Hey, is that a star for me?!" LOL.

"Ej" or whoever owns this site could pay for it and make $$ on top of it by advertising. www.bulldogdomain.com was free when I started and still is. What he did do was require users to register for full access. All others can only read the boards and can only post in a "Guest" area. He also started implementing the advertising banners/sidebars so he didn't have to charge his users. The board has grown exponentially and sees a high volume of pictures as well. There's another gardening website that has become a virtual behemoth!! You have to pay on that one as well, although the annual fee is very small. I think it was 10 or 15 for a year. Guests can only read the first post in each thread, none of the replies and they can only view the thumbnail pics in that first post. Registered(paying) users can click on the thumbnail to get the fullsize version. That is a VERY high traffic website though. GB could/should investigate selected advertising to pay for the hardware, software and their time. (imo)
