There was a serious problem here that lasted for several months until Ej found the source. Many features were disabled during this time and they are gradually being restored. One good feature was a chat room. I hope it will reappear soon, when Ej finishes putting things back together. I've been hankering for a chat.

Hi Cheryl! I know it takes a little while to figure things out here and I know I had questions when I first joined. And I'm happy to help you out where I can. I can tell you that any emails (through this site - the 'private message') - goes to the email you put in your profile. If you want to change that, click on edit profile at the top of this page. You will find your name and edit profile on the right of that. Click on it and you will open a page that says Profile editor. Just follow directions and you can make any changes to your profile you wish to. As to your first question, I don't have the answer to that, but am sure one of our gardenbuddies does. Hope I helped.

I don't know if you found it already, but in case you didn't... (I'm sure you've already figured out most of this, but I'm just going to start from the beginning anyway for anyone else who might be confused.) There are three menu bars at the top of most GardenBuddies pages. The first one lists the member's user name, followed by "Edit Profile", "New Messages", "Log Out", and "Archives". To change your email address, you first click on "Edit Profile", then sign in. The page that comes up after signing in shows a list titled "Profile Editor Options". If you click on the link in that list titled "Information About You", it takes you to a section where you can change your name and your email address. PM (Private Messages) use the email address that you list there. Anyone who receives a PM from you will see that email address in the message that you send to them. Private Messages are sent to emails and are not posted on the forums.
The messages disappear because the idea behind listing new messages is to view all messages that have been added since the last time you clicked on "New Messages". If you don't want to lose the list before you're done getting caught up, you can right-click each new message listed and open it in a new window or new tab.

Also, if you want to open each message in a new window (ao as not to lose all the "new" buttons) you can double-click on the spot just to the left of the "new" button. A little hand appears over this link spot when you pass your cursor over it. You can also use this spot when there is no "new" button --- it's just to the left of the rose icon. Anne

Interesting, Anne. I had never noticed that I could click on the icons on the main forum page to open the links in a new window. I just always right-clicked the links themselves to open them in a new window. Hahaha!!
