Can you believe it's still in its box, lol?! I suggested getting a docking station so we could use it in in the kitchen. That seemed to appeal to Mike. So the first question is can we upload our own CD's to the iPod or are we limited to iTunes? What happens when we get a new computer ... will the music still be on the iPod?

ok you put your music into itunes first. that is your library. from your library you make playlists that you put into your ipod. the music in your ipod is changed around according to your whim, the library is ALWAYS there. its like your ipod checks out songs. if you buy a new computer you back up all your music on a cd file that is very fast to burn. its a data disc, it won't play songs, but will store 1000s of songs for transferring to the new computer. your ipod can go to any computer that has an itunes library. if you get a new computer and have not transferred you itunes library the ipod won't be able to synch into anything unless you move your library. try your ipod now with the songs in your library so you get the hang of it. its all very simple once you start playing around.

I have over 300 CD's digitized in my iTunes library. Yes, you can just put your CD's in the computer and, as Jain said, once in iTunes they can go onto your iPod.

Mike mentioned something about not synching the iPod to our computer. Is that even possible? Don't both of you have Apple? Do I have other options using Microsoft? A while back I started creating a library at iTunes with uploaded CDs. Even created a CD, but it only plays in my computer or home DVD player; not in my 2000 4Runner. I'm guessing that's because of the age of the vehicle.

i don't have a mac, itunes is made for everyone~ the ipod has to get the music from your computer, so yes you must synch, which is just "borrowing" music from your library. go try it right now, it takes minutes to do... plug in your ipod to the computer, it will open itunes and then go to the second tab on the ipod screen and check the music playlist you want or let it upload all in your library, that simple~ if you get stuck call me i have helped a few before, once you get the hang of it you are in like flint! some older stero's can't read the cds, but my car is 10 years old and can~ did you burn your cds from itunes? maybe you chose a different format...
