Oh goodness, still more gorgeous cookies, eggs and food.

I'll try and post the cheese recipe (in eggs as that's the major ingredient and I don't see anything that better fits) but you have to understand that this has been passed down through generations and Grandma never owned a "measuring" utensil. A cup of something meant a big white coffee mug, a tablespoon was a big soup spoon and a teaspoon was a regular coffee stirring spoon. We've never changed that so I'll have to measure out what those things equal first. I'll let you know when I get it up.

Seil, my Polish roomie from college always brought back those poppy seed and prune rolls. Loved them. What is the cheese like?? Is there any kind you can compare it to??

Suzy, I loved that story of the pocking! I think my gkids would love that! I do the wishbone with them..another thing lost in time. They get a kick out of it. So I am going to need more details..What if both crack, you move on to two more people??
Your cookies are beau! And I see calligraphy..do you do it??

Debbie, your Easter was beau I am sure. All the cute bunny touches..And Easter 2008 not over yet.. Eastern rite is Apr 27...

And the bunny left a some nest cup cakes here for Mike, since all the other goodies were taken elsewhere!!
And the tulips are opening...indoors at least!!!

Beautiful photos.

Susan, your table setting is lovely; the chargers go so well with your Wedgwood. I would have a difficult time deciding between your Carrot Cupcakes or the Magnolias, they both look delicious.

Marigene, I love the colors and patterns on your cookies,} they go with the napkin perfectly, and the pretty basket with the green eggs makes a very "Eastery" look. Good job!

Marie, Dinner looks delicious, I used to only prefer smooth mashed potatoes, but now I look forward to "smashed" potatoes, too--- the texture does it.

Lee Your EGGS! They are works of art, how could anyone bring themselves to cracking them? Much too beautiful, I'm so glad you captured them in the photos.

Seil I love your pearly finish on your eggs, they look so pretty. It's fun to see each persons different take on decorating eggs. I look forward to your cheese recipe-- it looks awesome! Good for you for keeping the tradition going.

Monique THE Hen Pie! I'm glad you made it, no hens to be found this year, but I am planning ahead for next year. Hen Pie it will be. :)
Nest cookies, they look so pretty on your darling plate. And BIG Bunnies, I bet LL & Max liked those! Your photo of the Egg Hunt yesterday astounded me. So much snow piled on your beautiful gardens, and LL being LIFTED to hunt!

Suzy, WOW, you mastered hand-painted cookies! So beautiful! Thanks for sharing the egg cracking tradition. Your dinner looks delish, all kinds of favorites. I would be very happy with that.

Jain, I enjoyed Bunny's tour yesterday... you are so clever.

Debbie, Your pastel EGGS are a stand out. I don't think I've ever seen them prettier. Very nice job.

Kathleen, I was admiring your chocolate covered egg cakes and bunnies, how CUTE are they?! And your picture pushed me over the edge, another beautiful cupcake. I must make cupcakes this week. Love those pretty pink tulips.

I couldn’t stay out of the kitchen yesterday, I needed some cooking therapy so I turned off the contractor's drying fans and had some fun. I figured I had already shopped for the ingredients for Easter dinner on Wed so why let the food go to waste.

These photos are deceiving, the ceiling & light fixture above the table have been ripped out and the kitchen is taken apart & is in disarray waiting for the water damage repairs to be complete.

Then lamb chops.

Followed by salad ~

Too tired last night, so I'll make it & post tomorrow or Wednesday.

I hope you all had a lovely Easter.

P.S. Reality Check. Here's the "other" plate:

I love everything here. Mary, you did an amazing job of putting together a lovely table and a gorgeous meal under trying circumstances. I am really laughing at your last photo - there is often a reality check kind of plate here too. I hope that your repairs are progressing well.

Seil, I'm looking forward to seeing the cheese recipe too. I can remember my mother making a simple farmer's cheese when I was little and my Russian aunts doing it routinely. When I was a young married student I made a Lithuanian version with a friend a number of times. Just a 2:1 ratio of whole milk to buttermilk heated until curds formed and then drained in twisted cheesecloth overnight and then flattened and pressed between two plates with weights on top. Sometimes we added caraway, sometimes not. I loved it and have been thinking about making it again. I'm really interested to see how the eggs are used in cheese making.

Cynthia, Addi is so cute with that very intent expression.

Suzy, I think that type of egg cracking must be pretty universal. While I didn't know about it as a child, Max's mother was telling everyone yesterday how her father, a Russian immigrant, cracked eggs with the children at Easter - exactly the same way.

I love everyones eggs and cookies. If Max had agreed to paint on cookies, I would have made them but Thursday and Friday nights were already committed and the eggs take a long time. I do not do any of the drawing on the eggs. Max sketches in pencil then does a black fine line sharpie outline and then colors in with felt tip markers. I color the eggs and sometimes, as in the case of the dog, find internet photos.

The host family had recently added two West Highland Terrier puppies to their household. They are white but you can't do a white dog on an already colored egg, so this one is silver.

Cynthia, Brockley is black with very long, slender legs. For 65 pounds he is a tall dog. The silver dog looked just like one of the new puppies which we had not seen before.

Max did 15 eggs but I did not photograph ones with similar designs. Each egg had a guest's name in gold on the back side. Here are a few closeups, you can see the pencil sketch lines but they barely show when you are holding the egg and looking at it. Max has been doing these for years.

He likes his mashed potatoes lumpy.

That's how we like ours too...you definitely know they're real potatoes that way.

Suzy, beautiful cookies, I'm sure your co-workers were impressed with your creations. Glad, you'll be getting home soon. Louisiana must be beautiful this time of the year...Interesting about "egg knocking"... I recently read about a similar practice in Romania for their Orthodox Easter.

Debbie, love the dyed deviled eggs...they come out so pretty -I need to try them sometime

Kathleen, Mike's cupcake looks delicious...lots of icing YUM

Mary, beautiful, ultra-feminine tables-setting...Your lamb chop dinner is such classic Easter fare and love the "reality check" picture. Hope your kitchen is as good as new soon and that all the workmen and their fans are history.

I guess I'd have to say the cheese is somewhere between a regular cheese, like swiss, and an egg custard in texture. I also forgot to mention that it's sweet not savory. I can give you the ingredients because I have those on a very brown old piece of paper in my Dad's handwriting but since I don't actually make it, Alan does, I'm not sure on the procedure. I'm going to ask Al when he gets home.

I need to rewrite this all out anyway to preserve it for the future. I should learn how to make the stuff myself too. Same thing with the prune etc. cakes. I have a book full of these old stained hand written recipes from both Mom and Dad and sadly there are a few that they never wrote down and are lost to us now. Hind sight is always 20/20 as they say.

Looks like everyone had a beautiful, colorful and fun Easter! Thank you all for sharing all your wonderful creations and tables.

Marigene, your cookies are pastel pretties. I love that first shot with the pastel paper to match.

What a lovely way to display your eggs, Marie, and I had to laugh at your DH wanting his potatoes lumpy. The lamb looks yummy and tender.

Lee, the eggs that Max decorated and truly beautiful. Thank you for sharing his 'technique' :)

Beautiful, as usual, Monique! The hen pie, the nests - picture perfect. Maybe it was not an 'adult' table but I'm sure it was a 'fun' table!

Wonderful traditions, Seil. Thank you for sharing them all - and for your husband to take part - wonderful. Seil, the copy of that recipe is precious. You should frame it and hang it in your kitchen :)

Your magnolia cupcake is beautiful..is it Debbie's recipe?

As usually, I can't use just one recipe I had to combine three! I used mostly Magnolia but saw that Ina Garden (Mary said she used her recipe) used buttermilk so I used that. Then I saw that Nigella used caster sugar, so I used that :)

Suzy, beautiful job on the Easter cookies -they are top-notch! I also enjoyed reading about your tradition of pocking the eggs too.

i am so used to you in red that green has me tilting my head!

I know! Now that St. Paddy's Day and Easter are over the red is coming back out! Adorable silhouette :)

Adorable bunny in your devilled egg tray, Debbie :)

I think Easter brings out the child in us don't you?

I so agree! It did for me too and brought back wonderful memories.

I had to borrow an idea of yours, Kathleen, and put raisins behind Bugsy who sat at one end of the table. Everyone laughed :)

Mary, you are amazing! Your kitchen a mess and you end up dazzling us in spite of the adverse cooking conditions! Your table - so pretty in pink and Easter-y. Delightful! I would love the recipe for the pomegranite reduction if you have time. Do you think it would also work with beef tenderloin?

Here is my one after Easter sale purchase - from Safeway. The wire is antique brown and the eggs are blue speckled with brown. I thought this was pretty for real or the artificial eggs that came with it.

Lee, you dh's eggs are wonderful!!

Mary, what a beau table and meal you made in the midst of chaos..I can't do that in the best of times!! I love the china, the setting, and the food on them!!

Susan, sounds like you had a fun time! Your table was lovely!!

Jain, how cute is that, the bunnies shadows...adorable...and you are so clever!!

Re the mashed potatoes...we had them EVERY night. My sis still won't eat them as she was so sick of them. It wasn't a meal w/o the potatoes in our Irish home. And NO lumps...I have only had fake potatoes at school, and they were awful..a distinct distaste to them!

Seil, I have a book like that, too, of my Nana's recipes. Your picture of your dad's recipe reminds me of my grandma's recipe book she left us. I took two of the recipes out of the notebook and framed them in my kitchen. It was a nice way to display. I have a picture of it.

Lee, Max's eggs are gorgeous. very talented! I love your find, very pretty! Will you display Max's eggs in it? So nice!

LOL, at the reality check! That's so funny, and so true, Mary :) Glad to see you still have your sense of humor, with all that work to be done, jet engines and all :)

I've really enjoyed all the pictures and sharing Easter with you all. Beautiful dishes, food and pictures. Thanks for sharing :)
