Does anyone know if you can use pressure cookers on them? Instructions on one I had a few years ago said not to use a pressure canner on it.

Thanks, LInda ! Is it a pressure canner? That's the type my manual says not to use.

Yes, I canned string beans with the pressure cooked. And I know they say not to can on those type of stoves. But I have not had any problems and my friend also cans on hers and has had no problems. I also do salmon which takes a bit longer.

My glass top stove instruction booklet gives some advice on canning - use the proper size burner is the only thing I remember - and I have canned for whole days at a time on mine for the last 5 years with absolutly no problem. When I was thinking about buying my stove my friends were aghast - they believed that you had to have special pots and pans, that you couldn't boil water (?, that you had to use the special cleaners every single day, that canning was a nono - I bought mine anyway after I asked the salesperson about scratching or breaking and he took out a huge metal measuring tape and literally bounced it off the surface, and then leaned on it and dragged it right across the whole cooktop with no sign of damage, and then said, "I think these are pretty tough...."

Thanks so much, Linda and Julie. I've gone through this kind of angst every summer about whether to try it or not. What I've ended up doing is setting up a little burner on the patio and canning outdoors. Maybe now I'll have the courage to try it in the kitchen.
