i have gotten behind here this weekend, but was so much fun to see you all REALLY tailgating! susan, super series. you know what struck me most, how cute you all are... the "teenager" playing bags made my jaw drop when i saw her sitting next to you... i had just told myself she is young, time will age her and she is not a kid! you are all bathing beauties! your cookies look delish, pass the plate please cause you tiny tots are not going to polish them off in one sitting like i will! monique that is so cute for debbie, you are always so talented! jayne how cute are you, off to the stadium for us! the leaves are such a great touch, but i adore your fall picnic... PERFECTION! debbie your party sounds likes a big hit, of course we are tapping our toes for the pics please! oh carol you are making my mouth water when i saw the meat plate! your bread looks pregnant! dang i was going to skip dinner tonight, you are making me rethink that...

Susan, you are so lovely and your friends look like they are having a ball! You certainly know how to tailgate in style. Jayne, I love throwing a tablecloth on the ground in the fall and having a picnic just like yours! Thanks for joining us, I know how busy you are. But we all have to eat! Of course, I am adoring Monique's pumpkin. I can see you getting up on Thanksgiving morning, and painting that. You are too cute! Carol, I would appreciate an invite to your next tailgate party! I just looked at the recipes for the slaw and wing sauce, and I can see why they were winners. Our friends thought it would be best if we provided the beverages and desserts for the party. Therefore, each couple brought their hibachis, something for the grill, and a dish to pass. Their grilled items included shish kabobs, brats, kielbasa, turkey burgers and pork chops. One of my desserts was Okara Lakes Apple Crisp, served in little canning jars. I set them in a cooler, easy for tailgating. Then I forgot to take a picture, but this will give you an idea of the size jars I used. I'll post the apple crisp recipe in case you want it, although it's sinfully easy. No oats in mine.
Our guests started arriving at noon, and the weather was perfect for kayaking and canoeing on our lake.
We worked up an appetite for appetizers, and there was an assortment of chicken satay with a sauce, baba ganoush, salsa/chips, sausage bread, chips/dip, etc. Everyone loved the maple leaf pastry stuffed with ham and cheese. I'll get the recipe from my friend and post it this week.
Then we relaxed, while our friend performed for us. What a voice! Here is a picture of Brian and DH.
What a fun day! I've hosted four parties within two weeks due to family and friend birthdays being back to back, so I'm ready to be a guest :-) Thanks for tailgating with us!!

Thanks Jain :-) I'm working on the leaves recipe, but in the meantime, I found this recipe. I think my friend used pie crust for the leaves, but I see Martha is using puff pastry. http://www.marthastewart.com/portal/site/mslo/menuitem.fc77a0dbc44dd1611e3b f410b5900aa0/?vgnextoid=e1c856866a80f010VgnVCM1000003d370a0aRCRD&vgnextfmt= default

Wow, Carol, that's a lot of food! It all looks great and I know it had to be a hit with the hungry appetites! The banana bread...too funny. Debbie, love your party! Gorgeous surroundings, great entertainment and lots of help with the food. I'm curious about your apple crisp... I wondered how you baked in the jars. I have similar jars and thought about trying to bake my crisp in them, then thought better of it. Thanks for hosting this event!

Oh, Jain. If I would tell her what you said it would make her day, her week, her year. She is probably six years younger than me but 50's. Her youngest son is still a college student - 5th year :) Her husband is the one manning the grill - her daughter with the Badger Six Pack Belt. She is an avid runner and tennis player - she makes us all sick - LOL. You can see what I have to deal with here :) Debbie, the picture of the lake looks like glass. I love it when lakes are so calm like that when you can see all the reflections. I can't even imagine having a live, talented singer and guitar player - how wonderful that must have been! The mood that evening with the music and fire must have been magical. I so get needing to be a guest after our summer.
I'm pretty sure you did, Monique - on the previous page of this thread. It's been moving fast :) Kathleen, cute addition :) I may have the same Mr. Spider in our attic. Gotta get those decs out. This has been so much fun, Debbie! Thanks for being a wonderful hostess! Off to find Carol's recipes ;)

I think I'm losing it.... I can't find Debbie's Crisp recipe on Desserts. Whew, so happy to know you vacuumed Spidey, Kathleen. In that case, you would be OK with Kit. I vacuum her and she loves it.

Jayne, you vacuum your dog, how funny! My neighbor used to wipe her dogs paws off every time she let him back in the house, his butt too!!! Monique, I thought I posted after Jayne's too, but I must have forgot the final button! Jain, you don't crawl around on your floor, so it's ok! And it's your house, I don't care if it is hairy, LOL! Yes, let's do a Halloween table, it will be fun. keeps you young...so does plastic surgery, but a table is cheaper...

Hi Jayne, I did post the recipe under desserts, but I thought I'd post it here for you also. Apple Crisp - Tailgating Style I used small canning jars for individual servings of apple crisp for a recent tailgate party. I made the apple crisp in a baking dish, and then transferred portions of it into these little jars. They transport easily, and I topped the apple crisp with whip cream just before serving. Here is the simple recipe I use, since I don't care for oats on mine. Apple Crisp =========== Preheat oven to 375°F Grease a 1 1/2 quart square or round baking dish. Cream together: 1/3 cup butter 1 1/4 cups lightly packed brown sugar Stir in until crumbly a mixture of: 2/3 cups Flour 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon Arrange in prepared casserole 6 peeled and sliced apples. Sprinkle with crumbs. Bake in preheated oven for 40 minutes or until apples are tender and topping is golden brown.
