I am now a busy mother of 3. Does anyone make their own treats? I just put a batch of these in the oven for the first time ever making them. Would appreciate anyone ideas. The boys are always hungry & baby Ming is a little munchett in her own right. **************** MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v7.07 Title: Fido's Reward! Categories: Dog biscuit Servings: 10 3/4 c Hot Water or Meat Juices 1/2 c Powdered Milk 1 Egg, Beaten 1/3 c Margerine 1/2 tb Salt (optional) 3 c Whole Wheat Flour Servings: 10 In a large bowl pour hot water over margerine. The kids LOVED THEM!!!!!! House smells so good !!!!! Charles had some powdered oxtail soup mix in the cupboard, I added that plus a chicken powder, a tad more water then what it called for, doubled the recipe,... cooked 5 lasagna trays of them. Couldn't find a cookie cutter. Cooked them for 25 minutes. YUMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Mimi, I love your dogs. Here are three treats that I've made often, Brockley, our 65 pound standard poodle loves them all. He now thinks that any container that comes out of the fridge and smells like yogurt must be a Frosty Paws for him.
The smaller ones in the front are the Double Ginger Cookies and the larger ones are the Bacon Cheddar Cookies. It's really important to dry the cookies out very well so that they keep well. I always leave them in the oven with the heat turned of and the door slightly open for at least two hours and often overnight. After some discussion on the CF about making dog food and treats I looked for a recipe on the web for a clone of Frosty Paws, and adapted what I found. These are so easy and so good, at least that's what Brockley says. When you read the ingredients on the commercial Frosty Paws package you'll know that these are so much healthier for your dogs. One word of warning, either train your dog to eat these only in his bowl or give them to your furbabies outside; you do not want sticky gooey Frosty Paws on your floor or in your dogs bed. Brockley learned after the first treat that it is only acceptable to keep his treat in his dish, even when we give it to him on the deck. Have fun making treats, your pets will love them. Lee DOUBLE GINGER DOG BISCUITS 2 ½ c Whole wheat flour ½ c powdered milk ½ t salt ½ c butter 1 T sugar 2 T ground ginger 3 T chopped crystallized ginger 1 egg ½ c water Put first seven ingredients into food processor, pulse until mixture looks like cornmeal. Add egg and water, process until dough forms a ball (you may need a little more water). Roll to 1/3 – 1/2 inch thick on floured board, cut to desired shapes, gather together and re-roll scraps. Place on cookie sheet with non stick foil on it or spray sheet with Pam. Bake at 350º for 30-35 minutes until firm and dried out. For biscuits to keep well they must be baked until dry and hard. You can also leave them overnight in the oven with door ajar to dry out further. BACON CHEDDAR BISCUITS 2 c Whole wheat flour 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped ½ c bacon fat 2 c shredded cheddar cheese 4 strips cooked bacon cut in small pieces 1 egg ½-1 c milk Put first three ingredients into food processor, pulse until mixture looks like cornmeal. Add remaining ingredients and process until dough forms a ball. You made need less milk depending on how “dry” your flour is, (I’m in a very dry area) start with ½ c and add from there until you have a stiff dough. FROSTY PAWS Makes twenty treat cups 1 32-ounce container of plain yogurt 2 ripe bananas 2 Tbs. Honey 2 Tbs. Peanut butter 1 large apple, peel left on and shredded 1 handful baby carrots shredded 1/2 t ground ginger, cinnamon or both - optional 1t vanilla - optional Mash bananas until smooth. Add yogurt, honey, and peanut butter. Stir until smooth. Fill small 3 oz Dixie cups 3/4 full. Freeze. Store in a zip lock in the freezer. Let cup thaw a minute or two and tear the paper off and serve.

Mimi, I'll be trying your treats too. I just stopped back again tonight to add a shot of Brockley enjoying a Frosty Paws clone for dessert. His diner was ground beef, brown rice, shredded carrots, apple and zucchini cooked together. I'm sure our dogs would be good friends!

Excellent thread, Mimi! Your canine trio are reaping the rewards of your delicious prepared treats. You're such a good Mommy! Thanks Lee for posting the recipes on dog treats. Brockley is very handsome and is definitely enjoying the Frosty Paw's clone that you made for him. Another awesome Mommy! I goggled healthy recipes for more home made dog food & treats and discovered this very interesting website. http://www.seefido.com/html/dog_food_recipes.htm I think I'm going to try making some of the dog yummies and bring them to Ginger as a special treat after she has delivered her pups next week.

Here's a vegetarian recipe that they seem to like a lot. CARROT BISCUITS In a large bowl: 2 large eggs, beat well add 1/4 cup milk (or water plus powdered milk) 2-3 good sized carrots grated fine 6 TBSP corn oil Beat together well. Combine in a separate bowl then add to the egg/carrot mixture: 3 cups whole wheat flour (or part oatmeal or other flours) 1/4 cup dried parsley flakes pinch sea salt Mix together, knead on floured surface till elastic. Let rest for 10 minutes on a cookie sheet. Roll out on the cookie sheet to about 3/8" thick. With a pizza cutter cut into rectangles, squares or diamonds of desired sizes. Bake 45 minutes at 350F. Turn over and bake another 10 minutes. Remove from oven when fairly firm or leave in turned-off oven a few hours or overnight. Substitute other vegetables like sweet potato or yams, zucchini etc., corn meal, whatever your dog likes! Roll them thinner for people biscuits!
