In a previous post, I had asked if a seedling had a 5 set of leaves, could I assume that it would be a type 3. I have a seedling of Rhapsody that was near Princess Diana, about to flower. It only has a 3 set of leaves, but the flower not quite open yet, is looking like the 4 sepal style of Princess Diana. It's dark now, but will try to get a pic tomorrow if it's not still raining.

Here's a pic from this morning, but it's not quite open yet. Quite cloudy all day.

I'm interested to see your seedling's flower, but I'm confused as to exactly what you're asking - about number of sepals or the arrangement of leaves? I think you're wanting to ask about how the leaves are arranged (see this picture http://www.floranordica.org/info/termlistfiler/termbilder/leafshapes%202.gi f) and whether that determines its pruning type (or at least betrays its bloodlines). Am I right?

Yes, how the leaves are arranged. Most of my type 3's have arrangements of at least 5 leaves, while the type 2's have 3 leaves. But I guess there are some type 3's with only 3 leave arrangements, such as my Ville de Lyon and Comptesse the Bouchaud. So, although the seedling has an arrangement of 3 leaves, the flower bud was looking similar to my Princess Diana. But although it seems to have only 4 tepals, the texture of the tepals are not as thick as the Princess D. I guess I was just hoping it would be a type 3.

Thanks Ton, I didn't think so either. I guess because the color was closer to the PD color than Rhapsody, I was hoping it would be a type 3. Here's a pic this morning.

Well it definitely isn't 'PD', but no reason why that shouldn't be a seedling of 'Rhapsody', which definitely looks as if it might have been cross pollinated by PD, or something very similar. It will be interesting to see if it is as good a plant, growth wise etc. as the presumed pollen parent. The good news is that it is flowering now rather than at type 2 time, let's hope that continues in future years, though to be fair that particular shape could be nice in early summer.
