I regard my self as quite observant when it comes to plants, especially snowdrops, so I was really surprised to find a group of snowdrops in my garden this morning that I had not noticed before. The flowers do not have a trace of the usual green markings on any part, inside or out but are pure white. Maybe I should select it out and call it Galanthus 'Vestal Virgin'?

Yes you must select it and name it, there are too many galanthus that have been named for no other reason than to make money, this is special and worthy of naming for better reasons, well done for noticing it. Is it a form of nivalis or elwesii ?, excuse my ignorance.

How interesting...and exciting for you Melvyn. Lovely shaped flower too, with the elongated petals. Is it a group of seedlings, and their parents were 'normal' plants? Ooh yes, you'll have to name it....and I think Galanthus Vestal Virgin sounds perfect for a pure white flower.

melvyn I do not want to be a misery but i should wait and see what happens next year. I have found two pure white nivalis this year but wonder if they will have green on them next year. My first thoughts having seen the prices some idiots pay for them was I have made my fortune!

Melvyn Do the plicatus leaves belong to the 'virgins'?

Tony is right of course. A couple of years ago I had a white flower among a group of others but couldn't find it this year. But wait and see and hope!

I thought what Tony did, you are a rich man! Hopefully it stays all white, it is beautiful. I agree Vestal Virgin is the name to use. Maybe you should photograph it, dig it up, and put one on e-bay, we all know how lucrative that has proven to be!

Thankyou for all your comments, I have removed the bulbs from the clump and potted them up separately, that way its easier to heed the advice from Tony about being cautious in case they are different next year.I have had a similar problem in the past but in reverse ie I have found plants with green tips to the petals and the following year the green tips have gone!
I think it is a hybrid Pat, it is growing in an area where there are lots of both elwesii and nivalis. The leaves and flowers are larger than the nivalis nearby but smaller than the elwesii.
I think so Dee, there were at least seven flowering size bulbs but among other 'normal' bulbs.Your verification offer is noted! Thankyou all again.

Sorry Arthur, I missed your comment, the leaves in the photo do belong to the flowers but I am not convinced its plicatus.
