My first flower has opened. Not sure how long it has been there as there are so many leaves in the way.

A very nice and interesting plant and one that isn't very often grown. Do you find it difficult or easy?

So nicely put Anne.
I do too. I could have sworn they were Irises when I bought them lol!
Must be lovely but I would be afraid I would miss them flowering. It is hard enough to spot this one as it is.
Easy I guess. They are in a trough on the front of my house along with reticulated irises, tete a tete narcissi and sweet peas. I just let them fight it out. Once a year when they have finished flowering I add a bit of compost to top the trough and some potash. Thats it. I don't even water.

Moira I think the quote'I do not even water" is the secret and lots of sun.I have tried these many times in the past and it is just instant death with me.They are a lovely and unusual plant and just as good to see in the wild although quite inconspicus

Well that was it for my Hermodactylus this year. After the gales every single flower stem broke. Lets see how long they last as cut flowers.

How disappointing! I do like that one. I think I will try it to replace all the crocus the squirrels are eating for next year. Does it die back?

Do you know, I have no idea! I have them in a trough with reticulated iris and dwarf narcissi. Lots of strappy leaves hanging around for quite some time but I don't think there are any in the summer...I honestly can't remember.
