Hello, I received some fritillaria acmopetala seed from the seed list of ORGS. I've had them in a baggie with damp vermiculite in the fridge and they now have inch or so long roots. Can someone tell me what to do with them now? The ground is still frozen here. Tia

If they have their seed leaf why not transplant them into a pot? I do this with hellebores and have success. Fritillaria acmopetala, looks very pretty from the images I googled. I tried seed but had no luck, I hope it works for you.

Terry, I thought I replied to you days ago, I must have only done a preview and then exited. The fritillaria don't have any leaves as yet, just the seed with a root growing from it. When you say you tried seed with no luck, do you mean they didn't germinate or they didn't flower? I have had these in the fridge since I received them in mid January, I noticed the roots a couple of weeks ago. I just have no idea how long they take to flower from seed.

No germination Helen. I did notice the bed that I dumped them and other non germinating seed does have something growing in it that may be frits or muscari. Time will tell... No idea how long from germination to flowering.

I never use the baggie method for fritillaries. I just sow in a pot and place them outside exposed to the weather, and they germinate and send up a small leaf, and in 3-4 years you have a flowering plant. No worrying about transplanting, just keep them in the pot til they are big enough to get out in the ganden.

Ingrid that is what I did my first year, but the frits did not germinate. I left them for a second year and nothing, so I dumped the pots of seed onto a bed. Maybe what I have growing in the bed is the frits. Do you have any pictures of the leaf as they begin germination?

Here's a pic of them in the baggie, if you look closely you can see some green coming behind some of the seeds, I am assuming they will get leaves shortly.
