TerryK, For awhile now, I have been thinking about doing How Too DVD's about different gardening methods, and or species.

Right now I have been really busy with school. I take a night class a semester, and it's an English class. Writing a paper a week can take up a lot of time. When I have some free time, I will start this project, hopefully.

I already have all the tools needed to do such a product, I even have a DVD printer, that prints onto printable DVD's, no stickers needed. I paid $400 for it 2 years ago, when I had the idea, about doing How Too's.

Blank DVD's are pretty cheap these days, so it really wouldn't be any over head, when I could just burn and print 10 at a time or so, it's not like I would have to pay someone to do the production. Maybe sell one or two a week, who knows. It would just be for fun and giggles mostly, and maybe make a little for more plant purchases. Maybe even sell the DVD, with either bulbs, seeds, and plants, as a bonus. I figure I could produce a package DVD for under $1.

That's a fantastic idea Guff, keep us posted on this. I am not sure you read the thread in the crafts forum, but Ej was mentioning an online gardenbuddies store to sell garden related items in addition to crafts. This sounds like a great way for you to get exposure and sales.

Good luck!

Thought I would update, on the growth so far. I think by the end of the month, I will be able to break off some baby bulbs, some are almost pea size.

Any possibility you can show us where you will break them off? Maybe you can draw an arrow or a circle.

By the way Guff, I sent an e-mail to you recently did you get it? Lady slippers-seed was offered by NARGS last year and the old list is on their website. Here's the link.

I'm curious as to why you would separate such a tiny bulbil from the parent scale at this early stage. Wouldn't it be safer to wait a while?

Galanthophile, just going by the web link instructions, it said when they are pea sized, and the baby bulbs have roots, it is time to remove them from the scale, and put into soil.
TerryK, I don't check that email much, maybe every 2 months I will look an see, I think I may just buy 2-3 plants in the spring.

TerryK, I emailed then awhile back, they never responded.
I have emailed 5 or 6 different sites, that I either searched for or seen an ad in a magazine. The ones that responded back said, "we don't sell seeds".
So sad, maybe I have to get into the Lady Slipper business, since their so greedy, and only want to sell non flowering plants to the consumer.
Also one pod has 10k-25k seed/spores, so I can't understand why they have to be so greedy and not sell some seeds.

Then maybe you should look into joining NARGS Guff. The cost is fairly reasonable compared to the price of the plants. And if no one is willing to sell seed it may be worth it. Besides you may find some other things of interest.

Thought I would post a picture of one of my seed pods, that I collected. I have around 15 or so. The bigger pods, like in the picture seem to produce a lot of good seeds 100+. The smaller pods, maybe had 10-20 good seeds inside.

I have some too. What lily seed do you have, I have Casa Blanca? I think it may be a complicated procedure. My book on seed germination by Deno has a whole chapter devoted to them.

TerryK, Casa Blanca are they white? If so I have those, Stargazer and another one for Oriental type, then I have a bunch of Asiatic and another type, there like the old fashion tiger lily, but different colors.
There pretty easy to germinate. I had bought some seeds on Ebay in the spring and they germed pretty fast.
Some lily's are pretty expensive. I may buy some of the more expensive ones in the spring, then take some scales off, and make more.

I've grown species lilies from seed and I found them very easy.

Thought I would update. I think some are big enough to remove, but I will give them another week. I did find this one(second picture) with two grow shoots growing. I guess I will have to put the whole scale with the baby bulbs into some soil, they are too tiny to remove.

I don't know how you keep up with it all Guff. Do you have a greenhouse to grow all this or are you making do with areas of your house?
