Anyone grow these? I just ordered some and potted them up last week. The bag said to plant 6" deep. I am planting in a pot, is 2" deep enough, and when could I expect them to bloom? Thanks for your help.

It's one of my favorite flowers and I grow these all the time but I have never seen it offered as a bulb. I buy the plants. Good luck with this.

As they are listed as tender; most norther nurseries get them going early in greenhouses. I have only bought them as bulbs; they are borderline in our winters so they go in with other not-so-hardy's and get a heavy mulch. If they are Alstroemeria psittacina; the Common names are Peruvian Lily/Lily of the Incas

If potted; do you mean to protect them over=winter? 2" would be OK in a pot; however you made need to stake them. Mine, I plant 4" and mulch for winter.

I was planning to leave on my patio in a large pot and bring them in for the winter. On another garden forum, people from zones 2 and 3 treat them like a calla lily and just put pot and all in the basement for the winter, and bring them up about January or February to restart them. The roots I got actually look something like a dahlia tuber but smaller.

Mine grow like weeds in my garden. Nice flowers but they are starting to take over a particular patch in my border! They have longish white fleshy roots.

I've always used the double-bulb rule for all bulbs -- that is, if the bulb is 1" in diameter, plant it 2" deep. Like Arlene, I've grown Alstroemerias, but always bought the plants. I no longer have them, but they were hardy in my zone 5 for at least three years -- albeit in a protected place next to the house.
