Several of the Hardy Geraniums are better before the flowers appear.
Katherine Adele.
Margaret Wilson.
Samobor.

These are beautiful Richard, I think the only one available over here is Samobor. What coloured flowers do the first two have?

Lovely foliage photos Richard. I have never grown Katherine adele but i do grown Walters gift from where she comes and so I have many and various seedlings/plants growing that are similar to this with foliage just as darkly marked. I used to grow margeret wilson but am not sure what happened to her but i never found her very vigorous. I do have many and various other phaeums with similar foliage though. I prefer the ones with yellow foliage in them. The spotty monacenses are lovely too!

Katherine Adele is oxonianum, pale pink flowers with purple veins, similar to versicolor. Margaret Wilson is a bluey-purple phaeum. I have Walters Gift and it is also very lovely foliage, seeds around quite a bit here.

Another spring beauty, in terms of foliage, is G. wlassovianum (also for fall colours!):
And among the Phaeum family, 'Springtime':

I haven't seen Springtime before. It is lovely! Do you know if the leaf colouring remains into the summer?

The colours of the foliage are at their peak in spring, yes. They fade away with time, as most of phaeums (except Samobor, maybe), but the pattern is still visible. My plant is still young, Mara, but I'll willingly send you a division as soon as it is possible, you know it! I'm a bit disappointed with another foliage-phaeum, 'Connie Broe', so far...Has anyone tested it?

Hardy Geraniums with nice foliage are my favourite! I agree with you that Katherine Adele is better before the flowers come. This year I'll try to cut her back after the first flowering period. I've bought Margeret Wilson once but the plants didn't survive in my garden. My favourite among Geranium phaeum is 'Conny Broe'. 'Sprintime' is also a nice one.
