This is the photo of my Black Velvet seedlings. So far they're not as black as in catalogue. I did share some experience in the Thread Geranium in Annual in the Garden Forum.

Hankeat I believe as soon as the weather is nice enough for you to plant them they will start getting black leaves. Last year my black velvets leaves turn a dark green and black in the month of June. I hope that will be some help for you.

These few days the weather is sunny, warm and dry like summer. Some of their leaves are dry out. Now I've to put them in the shade.

They need part shade, 55 degree nights and you can water them every day if they are in the ground but isn't it to cold to plant them now. If you grow them from seed you have to harden them off (keep them in the sun for around 2 to 3 hours everyday) before you plant them. Let me know how your black velvets are doing and I will post mine soon. pardon my writing skills.

When did I first re-pot them? I couldn't remember, but I did it again last weekend. Please forgive my restless mind. I saw them quite suffered in those small trays because of the hot 'summer' sun we've in these few days. So I planted them in pots, three strong plants in big pot and 2 weak in small pot. Now the weather in Berlin is like summer. I let them have few hours sun a day. So far they're growing well.

Oh they look nice. I think I better plant my geraniums in pots because they look a little sick but they are in the house. I will try and post them tomorrow It is going to snow in two more days here in Ohio.

Yours has really black foliage. Now all of mine are blooming. They are
Black Velvet - Scarlet
Black Velvet - Apple blossom
Black Velvet - Salmon
Black Velvet - Rose You notice that the foliages of my plants aren't as black as yours. It's quite disappointing. Here only the foliage.

Oh thank you for posting each color Hankeat. Your Apple blossom seem to have nice big dark leaves and your plants came out stronger than most of mine. I only have two black velvets that I really like which are located in an area with more sun light. The other ones are so small I will post them as soon as I can. I believe I have a lot to learn about the black velvet collection Geranium.

Ms. Blackmon you're right, my black velvet is stronger and bigger than my other pelargoniums. Beside the good gene I have to admit that I like to dope my plants. I notice that all the new leaves have more black. I think my plants haven't mature yet. When they're grown, they will be look like yours. It's a good experience to grow pelargonium from seeds. Now I know that they're as easy to grow as annuals. So far all the seeds that germinated are grown. None has died. Beside 'Black Velvet' I grow pelargonium 'Raspberry Ripple' from seeds too. I collected the seeds from the mother plant I've last year. Unfortunately the mother plant failed in overwinter. Here is the photos.
I bought some seeds of 'Ripple Mix' too, but none of them has germinated. So this year I'll go further collecting seeds from 'Raspberry Ripple' and 'Black Velvet' and overwinter the mother plants. This time in dark basement, instead of in sleeping or living rooms. I think the chance of survive is higher.

There are not as striking Hankeat you are gifted because I would like to know how to collect the seeds from my Black Velvet geraniums and grow new ones from the seed that I gathered. Will you please explain to me how to go about doing that?

Thanks Cheri! Ms. Blackmon it's very simple. What you need is to wait till the seeds in the seed capsules ripen and collect them before the capsules split open. Normally is when the whole flower stem withers. The seeds must be dry before storing. They're open pollinated seeds, they may not be true to the original plant. Here is the photo of seed capsules.
