What a stunning color! And I like how you got the light behind the flower. Is that your crested cactus you had posted before?

Yes, you should pot it up separately. Christmas cactus need regularly watering during the year, an amount that would probably kill your beautiful cactus.

I read somewhere that after they bloom you shouldn't water for a good while. True???

WVgal, you can cut back on the water, but don't stop completely. These plants natively grow in trees (epiphytic) and have little capacity to store water, so they can't take dryness like your cactus can. After blooming, I cut back to about half regular watering for about 2 months, then resume regular water and feeding. I never let it get dry to the point that any of the leaf segments start wrinkling or look dessicated.
