I've always admired these. I remember David's living room table collection from a while ago.

I saw one at Home Depot on Saturday for $6 so picked it up. It's so pretty. I love the green of the leaves, the thorny stems, and of course the amazing flowers.

Sue, you take such exquisite shots, not to mention your exquisite tastes! You've found a beautiful specimen there, deep red like I like best, very similar to my 'Apache Red' cultivar with broad deep green leaves.

Though leaf-drop is normal in E. milii, this type seems to do it less. As a Madagascar euphorbia, millis can take a lot of water, and need moisture in winter as well, unlike many of its cousins. I water mine weekly/10 days in winter (though my house tends to be only about 60F in winter). I feed it with standard cactus/succulent fertilizer (low N, higher P, lower K) from March to November and they bloom year round.

What a memory! My living room table has only gotten more crowded. Here's my milii-types now:

Fritillary,

E. milii are very easy to propagate, and it's one of the few euphorbias that you can actually root in water. If you have a mature plant, just take some cuttings and stick in water (moist well-draining cactus soil will do as well), and you'll have roots within a few weeks. If you have only the seedling, you'll need to wait a while before you can take cuttings.
