This is a fantastic euphorbia if you have the space. In its native Canary Islands, it grows as a tree, but in cooler climes it tends towards a large shrub. This one is 2 years old and 6ft tall now. It grows in the UK where it is advised to find the warmest spot with protection from cold winds. It is unfazed by our upper-20s frosts. Here it is bordered by a Salvia africana-lutea on the left, Euphorbia martinii in the front right, and Salvia sagitata immediately in front.
It is budding all over now; here's a shot of one. When the flowers are fully open, they have a strong smell of honey (thus the botanical name)

I love this one! I have only seen pictures of it never in person but I think the description and there is something about the name mellifera I love. I don't know why! The Canary Islands are full of exciting plants aren't they?

I had this plant in England and loved it. I remember Ann & I seeing a wonderful clump of it when we visited Kiftsgate, the honey smell was really strong! Great photos David.
