I've managed to burn two of mine to death :( You can divide with no problem, but it's best now to wait til spring to do it. Empty the pot, shake all the soil off the roots, divide the sections you want to repot separately, then pot them back into DRY well draining soil. Do not water for a week or so and leave in a shady area. Then you can start giving it weekly water or so. If you have to cut any pieces, make sure you wear gloves, as the latex is toxic.
