Hello all! Does anyone have experience with a ming aralia? I would love to train my recently purchased plant into a bonsai tree. Here is a picture--what do you all think?
Also, I have noticed that there is a wax-like plug/cap where the trunk has been cut back. Is cutting it back even more (in the hopes of growing additional branches) a good idea? Should I wait until Spring to do this? Thanks for you help!

Hi Kelly, The 'wax-like cap' where the trunk has been cut back is probably what we call cut-paste. It is applied when a branch/trunk has been cut to help stop the loss of sap, less risk later of dye-back, and also to prevent any disease getting into an open-cut. I can see no reason why, over time, this tree should not make a great bonsai tree. Yes wait until the spring before pruning even further back. Wishing you success and a Happy New Year - Kath

HI, Kelly! I'm just posting your ming right side up!
Isn't it a good thing you posted here and found out that Spring is a good time to trim it back!
