Hi, I took your litle drawing to use as the basis for a 'virtual', which is what bonsai growers use to give an idea of how to style a tree etc.
When I saw the pic I immediately thought of the Literati or Bunjin style, which is kinda like calligraphy and is very artistic.

In the first pic, stage one, I have rubbed out some of the branches to indicate where I would prune it to give a more balanced look.
The red lines show where I would like new branches to grow

Next I tried to show how it might look with leaves:

Then I had another idea for a different style-semi cascade.
Simply tilt the plant over, do a bit of pruuning and you have this:
(Red line shows that the trunk is a little thin and could do with thickening up-not an issue with Literati style)

coolies, I'm a generous person and I like to think every plant has a good chance somewhere..
The leaves are much fuller and longer than you guessed, the plant looks much more lively.
I have this little quiet theory that you don't have to stick to one style, whatever you do will have some sort of an official name, and if it looks good, you have done well. This also applies to chicken breeding or anything else. My theory does not go down well with snobby breeders who insist on categories and standards.
Do what feels right, and if ya did good the competition rules will have a category for you, not that I'm going in any competitions anyway, lets face it, I have exactly 0 bonsai trees, but a few potentials.
If I tip it over like pic 3 it falls out of the pot, can I wire it to bend gracefully? It can still bend right down, the stem is about 7mm thick, hard but still pliable.
I will still have to wait till next week when we have the digi camera and can show you exactly what my little find looks like. I aint gonna cut into it or do anything except water without advice.
Literati sounds awfully esoteric for my beginner status, but if the hat fits, lets put it on the little ash.
I have got into a bonsai forum now, one of the ones suggested by bonsailady, and I have one guy showing me his pinus in private, hmm. However they seem like an informed and useful lot.

i'd definitely go with the literati style. the other name for literati is bunjin but i don't think that sounds as nice! think how impressive and elegant your Eucalyptus will look!
