Hi,

I have a hawthorne and its 7" tall 3 year old.

The leaves are getting big. What do i do to make it a bonsai do i cut them off. Were do i cut them

Hi Sam,

Yes, to your first question, just cut the biggest leaves off at the leaf axil, that is leave a piece of the leaf stem on that particular branch. Don't strip your Hawthorn of all of it's leaves all at one time, this would be too stressful for the tree.

Where is it growing at the moment? In open ground? In a flower pot? Could you possibly post a photo here - Kath

I would only advise removing leaves if the plant is healthy and has been in training as bonsai for some time.
Leaf pruning is done once a tree has been trained and it looks like a bonsai, i.e it looks 'finished'
I would think that the leaves of Hawthorn would become smaller over time once it in a bonsai pot, but I have never tried one.
