I thought I would check with the bonsai group for help first. As sheffleras are used for bonsais. At least in my book it says so. I have a shefflera that my late son David had started by using a leaf in his biology class or something. The class worked in the school's green house. A fellow student brought me the potted start. Just a leaf...now it is 2ft tall and I have never cut it. It has been 4 years since he started it. I finally put it in a ceramic pot with I thought nice potting mix and put it in my living room instead of the entry way that gets less light. Also it was in a small pot and sitting in a plastic pot which I would water. I don't think I ever fertilized it. I believe I fertilized it when put in the new ceramic larger pot. Also, I have a saucer below to catch the water. It looks limp, but the leaves are soft and the leaves at the top of this one long stem or trunk are drooping and curling. I watered it and let all the water drain out to rinse out any bad stuff and it sits on counter in the kitchen now. The stems or one main stem looks shriveled unless that is what it is suppose to look like? Am I watering it too much? Does it need more light or less light? I'm afraid to cut it back, I guess due to sentimental reasons, but I don't want it to die. Please Help... karalyn

Hi Karalyn, I'm so sorry that I cannot personally give you any advice about Schefflera bonsai as I have never grown any, but here are a couple of links that you might find helpful - Kath
