May sound daft again, haha. Still beginner with so many un answered questions.

From my previous thread a picture was added of my cuttings. As you can see there arent to many branches. Will branches naturally occur or can they be encouraged.

Branches will happen with time. Some species put out lots of side shoots, others are a bit more reluctant.
New little branches tend to thicken up the section of trunk below them, so can be kept for awhile just for that purpose even if they are going to get removed later.
Experienced bonsai people please feel free to correct me!

Absolutely right Greth, another reason Sam for putting specimens in open ground for a few years and let them 'grow-away'

Is it right to say that i should let the tree grow how it likes and when the trunk thichkness is sufficient may be 12-18" tall, then cut back to 10" and shape over time (or is shaping continuous)

Or

shall i cut the tree back when it reaches my desired height i.e 10" and shape whilst the trunk thickens.

Out of the two Sam, the 2nd is best, still leave it in the ground whilst the trunk thickens

Ok, thanks. I assume that when i take the top cutting it will start to produce the crown.

A book i have states that cuttings have a two year start on seedlings.

It also states that wiring can take place after 3 years.

What thickness should the trunk/tree be for me to wire it. What soze of wire should i use first.

Sam, I know its daunting, but take a look at our 'beginner needs help' thread. We have covered a lot of the beginner questions in there somewhere, and had a lot of fun along the way, which is why the thread is so huge (its all Jesse's fault shes a chatterbox :P)

OK, will do. Just need as much help as possible at the moment, thats why i have so many small specific questions, and here seems to be the only place with brilliant response and knowledge.

Does anybody have a guide they could send me that takes you through full creation of bonsai.

As you know Sam you can buy books on the 'Basic Guidance of Growing Bonsai' but 'Creation of Bonsai' if you're talking about specifics, each style is different and for different species of trees there are different techniques to get the best out of your bonsai tree.

Therefore, I always advise if you possibly can join a Bonsai Society, and go to 'workshop' evenings/meetings, this is where you will learn the most, there's nothing like 'hands-on' a tree, with advice from experienced bonsai enthusiasts
