hello everybody. i have a question and i think im at the right website. i do not know the first thing about gardening or plants in general, so go easy on me. i have a huge japanese maple in my front yard. the tree was here when i moved into the house 5 years ago, but its so big it blocks my view to back out of the driveway. i live on a pretty busy street and i almost got into an accident a couple of times. i was going to just remove it until a buddy of mine told me that they were worth big bucks. i dont know what to do with it now. so are they worth anything ? is there anyway of selling it ? would anyone even buy it ? any advice would be very helpful. thanks

Good morning......

I'm going to take a chance on an alternative suggestion.

But first.... I'm not quite sure what you mean by "huge".....
BUT.....
many avid gardeners would "kill" to have a "huge" Japanese Maple in their garden.
The thought of simply removing it or selling it would be unthinkable.

If I were you, I would consider getting hold of the BEST [repeat BEST] arborist in your area... someone who can demonstrate a thorough knowledge of pruning techniques for Japanese Maples....
and get an estimate on pruning the tree to remove the vision obstructing branches.

Your regional botanical garden might know of such an arborist..... I'm sure the National Arboretum in Washington D.C. would know of someone.

Best wishes.... for the tree as well as you.

thanks for responding. well its about 7-8 feet tall. and probably 15-20 feet in diameter. thats the problem, the entire tree blocks the street. to prune it enough for me to see out of the driveway would cost alot of money. thats why im posting in here. i dont want to simply remove it, because im sure someone would love to have it. so im just throwing it out there to anyone who would like it. it would be a shame just to take it out. so is it possible to transplant it into another area ? if anyone wants it just send me an e-mail.

Maybe if you put an ad in the local paper...someone local might want it. It would be easier to find someone willing to come get it. Sounds like a beautiful tree.
