Ok, I wish I found this forum 2 weeks ago before I planted all my new trees. I recently planted an Autumn Blaze red maple about 20-25 ft from the corner of my house. After reading some of the stuff on here, it seems this tree becomes a pest after some time. I dont want roots sticking up all over, and the grass to die underneath it. Also does this one get those helicoptor seeds falling from it thus growing new trees? I thought this tree was a hybrid and didnt get seed droppings. I asked about a magnolia and now want to know of this tree too, is it too close to my house at 20-25 ft off the corner of the house?

Well, I accidently planted my magnolia about 4 feet from the house years ago (I had temporaily planted there for protection and then never got around to moving it again) and it is thriving...however, mine developed a two foot high trunk and twenty foot branches so it looks kinda nice beside a mock orange and spreading out over the grass. Hasn't hurt anything near the house.

and no roots showing yet? what about the helicoptor seeds...does an autumn blaze produce those? I read they didn't and other people say they do.

Hi. I am late to this posting - sorry. I considered Autumn Blaze but the canopy at maturity would have been too wide. Is that not a problem for you too? I looked instead for either Autumn Flame or Autumn Spire (more narrow). I ended up buying Autumn Spire - it has a much narrower canopy, yet gets nice and tall. (An even skinnier one is "Montgomery" but I didn't need it that skinny). I bought the Autumn Spire from Forest Farm online here http://www.forestfarm.com/search/closeup.asp?PlantID=acru050 Good luck to you!

I picked autumn blaze because From what I was told it was one of the most beautiful red colored ones available and grows large fast!! I've read different things on it though, Some tell me there are no seed droppings or very little some say a lot. Also the roots growing close to the surface were a concern to me. I've seen some large ones and didn't notice any root problems in them so mine is going to stay where it is. As far as it being too wide, the wider the better. I live on 6 acres so that wont be a problem. I planted it 30 feet or so from the corner of my house because I wanted it close enough to be part of the landscape appeal.
