While visiting a museum yesterday I came across this elderly fellow growing in a victorian street-the street had been kept that way as part of the exhibit so its fair to guess that this tree has been there a good while. And yet it still bears fruit.

How lovely they respect it enough to keep it and to lean out the window and pick a pear!!

Well none of the buildings are occupied, they're all museum exhibits with all the old wares in the shops from the old days and manikins dressed in period costume. There's an old linen shop next to a shop that used to sell old gramophones and cylinders, with all the original items on display. Its like going back in time!

I have some very very old pear trees in my yard. Both still bear fruit, more some years than others. Im not sure what variety they are, one of them has large tasty sweet pears but the other produces very tiny pears that are very hard and kinda bitter. Even once they fall to the ground at the end of the season, they are very hard and they sorta make your mouth dry when you bite into them.

Sheila that sounds like an ornamental pear. What do the leaves look like? Are they long and thin like a willow's leaves?

I finally remembered to take a look at the leaves...They arent long and thin. They are small and kinda round, almost pear shaped and about the same size as the small pears that are on the tree.
