Yea, my favourite time of year! In front of our house is a purple norway Maple. Not my favourite tree but it does allow me to get some interesting shots!

Gorgeous. Do you plant a lot of trees ? This is a great time of year for planting trees...especially bare root fruit trees, or pines , etc. Also a great time to collect seeds !! :) This year I'm growing Mimosa "Silk" trees, Olive Trees, Date Palms, Peruvian Cereus, Italian Cypress, and Grapes from seeds.... and I think I'll get some bare root fruit trees and plant a "family orchard". Maybe some grafted fruit trees....they look interesting. I'm loving my 3 year old Italian Stone pines (the ones pine nuts come from) . In Italy I saw them forming the most beautiful tall shafts with umbrella tops ! Mine are bushy and about 6' tall now.

No i don't have the space to plant trees, just a silver birch out the back that used to be a Bonsai. This maple you see in the pic was planted years ago by the council, nothing to do with me. The residents hate them cos of all the leaves. Me i'd live in a forest if I could ;)

Interesting texture. We inherited norway maples too but I never noticed that coloration. Did you use a filter?

No filter Loretta,I never use em. Hold one of the leaves up to the light, you'll see what I saw.(this is one of those purple leaved forms which have extra autumn colour)

Larry, would that be Crimson King? I have plain green ones and I would have removed them except that they are mature. One actually might be removed because it is going hollow. Mine just lose their leaves now and they are lemon yellow when they go. Also no ribbing on the back of the leaf as yours. They are smooth except for the main veins.

I haven't a clue Loretta as like I say it was already there when we moved in 4 years ago. All I know is its some kind of Norway Maple. I doubt its Crimson King as the leaves don't go a deep red but more a deep orange before fading to dark yellow. During the summer they're a blotchy green and purple colour

Ahh! You did say purple leaf in your first post - a point I missed. I don't feel so bad now about my relatively dull Norways.
