Chasmanthium latifolium, just received some from a kind gardener. If this doesn't survive the winter, I also received some ripe seeds.

This one will increase in size quickly and need dividing. It will also seed about. That is why I cut off the beautiful ripe seedheads and keep them in a vase indoors to enjoy.

I saw this at Home Depot a few weeks ago and picked up a big pot of it. It is supposed to do okay in part shade too. I think I read that seedlings are not a problem in certain situations, but I forget which at the moment. I'm looking forward to the vase opportunity too!

Very pretty picture. It's interesting how differently plants grow in different parts of the world. I've had that grass for several years, never cut it back until spring, the clump has stayed on the smallish side and I've only found a couple of seedlings and you'd think my mild climate would be much more appealing to seeding than Marie's harsher climate. Maybe the seeds need very cold temps to germinate.

Thank you for the tips, Marie. If it survives the winter, I'll see how it behaves in my garden. It's only been planted less than a week, but yesterday I dug it up and split it into two pieces, planted one back where I had it and one next to a small concrete Japanese lantern--I thought it would complement the lantern. I'm moving things around here and there

I saw a lovely grass at the nursery the other day, but couldn't remember the name other than it being a type of oat grass. (I really must take my notebook with me as well as my camera). Could this be the same as yours Marcia?

I just saw this post, Sue--sorry! Yes, I think it is the same grass. I started some from seeds this spring--and it's a good thing because the original clump didn't come back. It was planted late and didn't have much of a chance to get settled before cold weather.
