This weekend we had a Hosta-day of our Hosta-club in Nederland The picture shows only part of all there was to see - there also was the leave-show and the choice of the best new hosta - sports and seedlings. This picture is the contest of the most beautiful hosta-in-pot. And believe it or not: I came home with only three new hosta's Gerda

Very pretty Gerda! It's one I would buy, definitely! I came home with 'Last Dance' and 'Whirlwind' this week. Such wonderful varieties to choose from...I could spend the day just taking them all in visually!

It took me some time, but now I can show you some of the winners on our Hosta-day!
This is the one I liked best, had a 2nd price
This was nr.2 and nr 1 of the newcomers,
Some winners in seedlings. (I hope that I do not make mistakes - it was a day with many events!) Gerda

Your Lakeside Elfin Fire reminds me so much of a hosta I bought last week at a new-to-me nursery. It is called Fireworks and you can see it here: (You may get a correction page. If so, just click on "hostas" and you will get an alphabetical listing whioh includes "Fireworks"!) http://www.perennialnursery.com/plantinfo/hostainfo/HOFWK.htm I also bought a second one but can't recall the name! It had no tag. I'll try to find out or get a photo of it to share.

Hey Gardenbug, Did you find Fireworks locally in Ontario or did you mail order it, if you don't mind me asking. If local, I'd love to see if I can pick one up. Thanks either way in advance, Patty

I picked it up locally...but the place mail orders. I don't know if they had any decent sized plants left. Ask! They have free shipping this year as an introductory offer. betty@floralandhardy.ca I also found the name of my second purchase in their catalog: Allegan Fog. http://www.bloembollenvisie.nl/greenteam/newplants/english/cultivars/np319.htm

What lovely specimens. I personally am looking for low growing (small), blue, hostas to place along my front walk. Any suggestions anyone? Thanks for sharing, Carol

Lovely pics and specimens indeed, Gerda! The one on the right of the last pic seems to have many more white "spills" than my own 'Spilt Milk'...Maybe they might call it "Milk Shake"? ;o) Blue Cadet and Pacific Blue Edger are two small, proven, fairly fast growing small blue hostas, Carol. Highly recommendable, IMHO. They are fairly similar. If you look for really tiny ones, you can try Blue Mouse Ears, but you'll have to be very patient!

There are many 'blues' that remain rather small: Blue Belle, Blue Bush, Blue Cadet (a favorite of the blues) Blue Chip, Blue Clown, Blue Ice, Blue Monday, Blue Skies, Blue Moon... You can make your choice! Oh,and of course Blue Mouse Ears, but as Zephirine said: it's a slow grower, but a beauty! Gerda

I looked up Fireworks (that is one I don't have) and put these two together, so the difference is clear.
This is my Lakeside Elfin Fire, I showed it before. But: Fireworks is on my wish-to-have-list! Gerda
