I went out to see how my elephant ear bulb is doing since we have been on vacation. Oh, my there it was lying on top of the ground with all the roots eaten off and some of the bulb had bites out of it too. Wondered what ate it!!??
It is ruined, no hope for my own leaves from it...(sob-sob)

Sorry about your eeb. Got raccoons? Sure sounds like it. We have about a zillion and I'm soooo tired of them. DH has been trapping and relocating them but their population hasn't lessened.

No, we don't have raccoons, the garden is inside a 6ft. fence and never had them. But we do have squirrels & chipmunks.
I can't buy new bulbs now, I'll have to wait until next year. I'm so dissappointed.

So I went to Lowes and they had 2ft. dark color Elephant Ears so I bought one and planted in a different place in the back yard. The next day I checked on it and two branched were broken or ate off!!! Poor little plant, I don't know it the squirrel chewed it or jumped on it.
I'm just not having luck with this plant!!!

Sunnyday2day I hate to tell you this but you might as well kill the racoons you relocate because they will get killed by the racoons in the area where you dump them.Just think what you would do if a stranger tried to move into your house.

Here is an update on my elephant plant..I replanted it real close to the house, water it every night, talked to it and protected it the best I could. Here is a picture of it now.
Think I should dig it up this fall and put it in a pot or put just the bulb inside??
