I have a lot of very big, over grown and threatening other plants heucheras. How do I cut them back? Sometimes I just cut off all the leaves that are covering the other plants. Is that OK or should I be doing something else?

Hi Seil
I was just talking to a nursery man the other day, He said Heucheras are very forgiving plants, .. you can tip prune them to make them thicker. Or layer them to make new plants or just cut them back to size.
We had a load of top soil delivered last week, so I took a bucket of soil to each plant and buried the long stalks. Made "U"s out of coat hanger wire. scraped the bottom of the long stems pushed the stem into the pile of dirt using the coat hanger U to hold it into place.
This way I shall get some new plants to share with my friends.
Hope this will be of assistance.

Thank you moonsinger. I have accidentally split some of mine when a piece came off and I potted it up and it rooted. I've never tried to cut them back before though. I guess they must be fairly tough then. I'll just cut them down to size and see what happens.
