I just love Niagara on the Lake, Ont. My relatives used to live right across the water in the U.S. in Youngstown, NY.
It must be pretty around there this time of the year.

Hydrangea!
I've not checked in here for a while. And now just look what you've done! You've bought out the store!

In answer to your question, my heucheras do remain evergreen(or whatever). The trouble is, they are buried in snow and by the time spring arrives, they need a pretty brutal tidying up.

Goswimmin! Yes, Niagara on the Lake is quite the tourist spot most times of the year. The sale was just great.

Gardenbug! So I take it that they stay greenish (or whatever!), but they get a bit soggy and so most of the leaves have to be cut away? Sunspot is turning a straw yellow with a bit of beige. I know straw yellow is the colour they turn this time of year but wasn't sure about the beige. Lime Rickey is still nice and green, outer leaves yellowing, but awfully slow growing. All the others including sunspot have taken off since I planted them.

I don't know how Sunspot and Lime Rickey behave yet. Their foliage does not appear to be as firm as others I have had. I see that earwigs (or something) have been enjoying my young LR!
In spring there are plenty of crunchy brown bits that need removing from the purple plants for a respectable show.

Hey Gang:

Check these out for 2005. Drool, drool, drool.

Scroll to the bottom and see the next page as well. Peach flambe will hopefully make its way to my garden next year.

I divided my chocolate ruffles today. I am so proud!

Peachy Keen! I'm so keen to have it - but it usually takes a couple of years until Terra Nova plants cross the Atlantic.

A very interesting selection of new plants - and not just the heucheras!

The sales don't stop so neither do I. Burnished Bronze and Kimono now grace my garden.

You may need to think of beautiful companions so that you don't have a sea of low beauties only. Perhaps ornamental grasses? They are a wonderful addiction too!

I just transplanted 'Silver Scrolls' near the rose Bonica, and I can't stop looking at the combination. The silver and reddish pink of the Heuchera sets off the pink roses perfectly - and vice versa.

Gardenfiend, I bet they look quite striking together. I have both so I can imagine the two!

Gardenbug: How's the frost where you are. I pulled up ageratum today, but my begonias, impatiens and petunias are still fine! Unbelievable for Oct. 9. Never seen anything like it.

Well I've mainly been working on the veg garden because things have turned black and slimey...But it is true that most perennials are still green or gold. No impatiens here, but I'm sure it would be compost since we had 3 frost days but one true freeze.

Don't know exactly what's been said on this forum, but have really enjoyed my new Amber Waves this year and bought 6-'White Cloud' heuchera recently. Can't understand why they call it White Cloud because the foliage is pink, coral, yellowy, and green all at the same time. Really striking and all at $1 a plant at a local nursery. I'm starting to really love these because they don't get eaten up by slugs like my hostas do.

Google says this:
"'White Cloud’ is a seed strain remarkable for its vigor, abundance of flowers and cream-white flower color; it also shows attractive copper and orange shades in the foliage in fall."
So its name comes from the blooms, not the foliage.

Welcome Gimmeclems to our forum and hi again Gardenbug. Hadn't heard of white cloud, so thanks for the tip. Gardenbug, I went to Humber Nurseries this weekend, besides getting some good $1.00 deals, I also looked for that tiarella I had told you earlier about that was so interesting. It is called Heronswood Mist.

Did you find Heronswood Mist? I planted two of them this spring. One died almost immediately. The other is just barely surviving. After hearing from another GBuddie that this is usual procedure for this variety, I potted it up last month. I can't say that it looks much stronger, but at least it is still alive. I haven't yet heard of anyone being successful with Heronswood Mist. Have you?

Not a soul...sadly!

I do have Hercules, which is similar in many ways...including being quite weak at surviving our winters.
