Hello: I'm new to this forum. Found it of course because of my recently acquired obsession with heuchera and heucherella! Just bought a half dozen of these and am really confused as to their light requirements. I have Marmalade, Lime Rickey, Palace Purple, Silver Scrolls, Heart of Darkness and Eco Improved. I have Lime Rickey and Marmalade in full sun spots because that's what the tag said, but am doubting that. It's confusing because all the sites talk about give different recommendations. ANyone have any info for Canada zone 5b?

I live in zone 5 in Ohio. I have many planted in shade and some in full sun. As I do not have much shade and do love these plants I am trying them in the full sun. Our weather is messed up this year, rain and not much sun but so far they are doing fine. Am hoping they continue to do good.

Thanks Janet for the welcome. I have marmalade and chocolate ruffles in full sun pretty well all day. The others are in afternoon sun only. Lime Rickey's outer leaves are turning yellow. It doesn't really seem to have taken to its environment, so am a bit concerned. The weather up here has been the same as in Ohio. My cousin lives in Parma and we have exchanged emails cursing the rain and our water logged beds and baskets.

Hi Sylvia and welcome. I have a few heuchera and find mine do better in sunnier conditions. One on my "must have" list is heucherella Kimono. Do you know this one?

Hi and and thanks for the welcome: Have heard of Komono, but haven't seen it live. Do you have any of the one's that I listed?

I have Kimono - unfortunately haven't got a photo and it's too dark now. The leaves are very lovely, the flowers not especially. I have many heucheras, but from your list only Palace Purple and Silver Scroll. Also: Tiarella Iron Butterfly, Pink Bouquet and Heronswood Mist. The last is just barely alive. Has anyone grown it successfully? I love Heucherella Quicksilver, though they have never again performed as well as in their first year.

I just bought Shenandoah! Couldn't resist the end of season sale. Oh, I forgot I also had a new one called Sunspot..brilliant limey green with a red center; quite different. I hope they all survive as this is my first attempt with these genuses. Saw Kimono today as well, very interesting leaf.

A friend was quite disappointed in Sunspot..and lost a few this summer. They were in part sun.

Some of mine do well in full sun, Chocolate Ruffles and Plum Pudding especially. I had Amber Waves growing in morning sun and afternoon shade but it was still looking sunburned and dry. Today I dug and divided it and put it into a dappled shade area where hopefully it will be happier. Mara I don't think I've heard of anyone who was happy with Heronswood Mist. It seems to be a very weak plant. I've also found that when my heucherellas start looking tired and not their best, they need to be divided and replanted. I've done it with several of them and they took right off and made pretty plants again. When you dig them they almost fall into little individual plants that are quick and easy to replant.

Thanks Penny. Then I'll dig it (scoop it?) out and try coddling it in a pot. Thanks too for the good idea about dividing the heucherellas. I'll give it a try.

I have heard that plants such as Amber Waves and others, when planted in full sun, need extra moisture to help them cope. Good to hear that Chocolate ruffles can take full sun, because thats where I have it. In fact Marmalade is in round the clock sun and is growing well. Interesting point about dividing them and them taking off again. I read that Heart of Darkness (Heucherella) is particularly prone to dieing back even though it may have performed well in previous years and that the best way to keep it growing is to move it to a new location. Rather peculiar characteristic. Any advice for lime rickey...he has not taken off, seems very slow and the outer leaves are yellowing. He is in half sun and half shade.
